Where is the best place to find outfits for sale? And are my expectations unrealistic, or are prices through the roof at the moment? A sidecar appears to double/triple the price of a bike. $15k for an old shitter with a car seems common place?

Covid tax; yes, prices are absurd: shitbox Navara utes with two hundred & plenty thousand km on 'em going for up to $20k and bikes have hiked too; can't see as outfits wouldn't be affected too.

Just keep an eye out on Gumtree and Bikesales, Facebook has an Australian Sidecar Enthusiasts Group which has some outfits come up for sale. You have to be quick for bargains as usual. Good luck with your quest. Cheers Ian

I know of three Urals getting around the Canberra area now

    Must obviously be others

Seem to be used for all-roads touring - incl. the huge network of easier forest fire trails - owners love them - the new 2WD variant is getting a good rap ...

Random pic from the web - this sort of remit ...

Anders at Eurotune used to be Ural agents in Queanbeyan, I used to see him around when I lived down that way.
He and Helen are an unusual couple, I think that they have lost all their franchise's, they had BMW, triumph, ducati and royal enfield at various times as well.
Their shop on Uriarria Road is now an art gallery of sorts, they have some bikes as props there.

I finally found my Engineer's report that Leigh obtained when he had thrown all the components into a co-ordinated pile.:D
Looks like I may have to get a stock rear wheel for the re-rego process though.:(
    Ebay & Gumtree - here I come, again.:pep

Yep I've got a spare rear wheel for a 900/955, you just get the "padlock" off and we're all good, Cheers Leigh

Followed a 2WD Ural through Canberra to the Tuggeranong roundabout last Friday.
Very impressed how it kept up and handled the traffic.... :brow

You got $15k, then I have a tried and tested , tough as, GSX 1400 outfit with your name on it. When you can get out of your disease ridden city , you can come to Perth and pick it up.

On road is fine. I want to tour with a kid.
Exactly what Im after, but more like $5k. You can get as gsx1400 for 5k... is a sidecar really worth an extra 10k? My earlier post was a whinge that 15k seemed excessive. If you can do under 10, send me a pic ;)
Id love a bmw k100, cbr1000, gtr1000, fj1100, bandit... anything like that with a sidecar for under 10k.

An "outfit" (the term used by VicRoads to register a sidecar) is not simply 1x motorcycle plus 1x fibreglass bath. You're ignoring dozens of hours of specialist knowledge and skill applied to joining them both, plus quite possibly thousands of dollars of specialist custom-made, one-off components like the zero-trail leading-link front suspension, steering damper, sub-frame to provide mounting points, modified swingarm and hand-made smaller-diameter wheels. Plus I'm yet to see a sidecar which doesn't have stuff like extra lights, weather protection, luggage stowage points, a towbar, radio, comms equipment etc.
I you can't afford a sorted, set-up outfit - well there's lots of Hyundais and Kias on Carsales.
Oh, and the Flexit sidecars - which needed no leading links or special wheels - retailed at $15k.

You can do all that for under 10 , we have a few now done for under 5 . Thing is it takes time to source the bits , knowledgable mates and that bargain bike etc .
But here is something under 10 which could be a bargain or a lot of work

Yeah nah, buy the Kia Rio, cos you clearly have no idea of the time, cost and heartache in building a sidecar. If you can find a GSX for $5k.....buy it !!

Prices are inflated, so no need for comments to get pissy about me asking and suggest a car. I have a car already. Excellent promotion for your sport ;) I know ive seen plenty of outfits for well under 10k pre-covid. I'll just wait a few years. I would have liked to know where to keep an eye out in the meantime.
I missed this one by 2 years:
