Well ok, you head toward my house and I'll head toward yours as soon as it gets warn enough.
Sounds like a plan, but I bet I get to Missouri before you get to Iowa.
I'll start tomorrow, I have the day off.............how 'bout you?
Caged it down to STL to take advantage of the beautiful weather on Saturday. 70 and sunny, nice little break from the winter gray. 35 and drizzle when I got home on Sunday. Drat, back to reality.
Despite me being in and the actual avenue of the saints running through Cedar Rapids, I think I'm going to make the ADVnue head more east to take advantage of the hills in NE Iowa Ave SE MN. Hopefully I'll get down to Missouri this spring to look around a bit
Let me know your plans I'll try to help................if my not out riding somewhere else. I'd love to see this thing come together.
Thanks to the creators! A buddy and I ran most of the route while the weather was whacky - 70's in February?!?! I'll take it!
We ran into a number of roads that were closed and private property signs/gates - but no worries...workarounds were easy for the most part. Ill get the tracks off the GPS and highlight the areas we had issues. Water crossings were 100% doable at low water. The crossing at Whitewater would be challenging - but the new bridge makes things quite easy! Generally, water was high for February, but nothing over 1' - maybe a bit more when the bike wallows down in the gravel.
Bigmo ... that would be awesome to see where you guys had issues, I'd like to update the tracks too... I plan on getting out when the weather gets better & improve a couple areas.
I really need to get out and ride this!
Due to an unfortunate set of circumstances that led to a fractured right fibula and dislocated ankle I figure I need to donate some time configuring a route for the TMOT. My plan is to start in Eagleville MO to tie in with the Trans Iowa Trail (TIT) work my way south and east to get a couple of covered bridges and state parks until I tie-in with one of the original TMOT routes in southern MO. But first my disclaimer: I won't be able to ride for quite some time, doc says 4 to 6 months so when the time comes I might ask for volunteers or people with knowledge of the areas for tips, route recommendations, etc. If possible I will be able to drive the route in my cage in a few months.
Ed M thats sounds great. if it ties in with the TIT on the north and the TART in the south we have the makings of a TAT that runs north and south. We just need Louisiana and Minnesota.
Hmmm, I never thought of that. But, I did get a PM concerning connecting the Trans Iowa Trail (TIT) north to the Trans Wisconsin Adventure Trail (TWAT) LOL , but as I live about an hour east of Kansas City I figure that route or track would be best left to someone who lived near there.
Does anyone have the TMOT gpx files they can share? The links in the first post aren't working. Thanks!!
I also wouldn't mind taking a look at them as well.
Hey guys ... I'll put them on my site and update the links in about 1hr... stand by!!
Uhhhh, I'm not sure what you mean by your site?
Ok.. I've moved the files to my website and updated the links on Page 1 of this thread.. enjoy!
For those who have done with route. Is it ridiculous to think this trip could to made in two days without really exerting yourself? Getting off work is very hard for me, but I thought if I were able to get it done in two days it may work out for me.
FYI the bash3t track shows going north of Birch Tree on county road FF, going straight at the curve, proceeding another mile or so north and taking a fork to the right. That road was gated off a few years ago. A little further up the road is a sawmill where the road ends. STAY AWAY from that whole area! The sawmill "owner" threatened to shoot me for being in the area.
