I'm a sucker to go anywhere people tell me I shouldnt. and 99% of the time, I find the fears of others have no real basis in reality. I had fun in TN, the people were ok, & I only met one cop when he stopped me when I got separated from the guys I was with. But I bullshitted my way thru it, & it didnt cost me anything.
his badge still had the hammer & sickle on it! :eek1

Im like James Stewart in 'How the West was Won'
I've always got to go 'look at the varmint'

As I said, I was invited into the home of Bogdan & Anya while I was in Kiev.
Bogdan is a member of Gods Squad, a christian motorcycle club. His friends had pitched in some money so he could travel with them for a week, otherwise he would had to stay at home.
he & his wife run an orphanage in Kiev.
Orphanages in Ukraine keep kids until they are 16, then they have to leave, & are put out on the streets with no job training, no skills, nothing but basic schooling. So what happens to them?
    Drugs, Crime, Prostitution, Suicide, etc.
Not a good way to introduce kids to the world!
Bogdan & Anya take these kids into there home, & for 3 years, they live like family. They even refer to them as their children. They have 9 kids now (plus 2 small children of their own!) and were expecting 6-10 more to arrive right after I left.
All are either in college or working, & saving money & experience to make it on their own. The kids were all great, very nice, & had good outlooks on their future. Anya speaks english well, & most of the kids have learned it to varying degrees. All of them help around the house doing various chores when not at school or work.
One girl, Leela, had a birthday while I was there, so I bought a bunch of ice cream for them :) she has 1 year of college left.
Anyhow, they run this on what donations they can get, which have seemed to dry up lately. So, I contacted Sean, who I met in Odessa, who lives in the UK & is VP of GSCMC. He helped me out by setting up a paypal account, & will forward any money recieved on the Bogdan & Anya (theres no paypal in Ukraine)
So I'd like everyone that reads this trip report to send them a dollar. a dollar isnt much, but if enough people do it, it would add up to alot of help.
Also, when I get home, I'm going to hit people up for clothes & stuff their kids may have outgrown, dont wear, etc, and send them on to these guys.
    heres the paypal address office@exousia.demon.co.uk

just put Bogdan in the subject line, & Sean will make sure all of the $ raised goes right to them.

If you are like me, & dont use PP, send me a PM or an email, and I'll send you their post address.

    Thanks in advance,
    Doug

and please, I hope no one has a problem with me asking for this, but if you do, Im sorry. Im just trying to help some bikers & kids out, & if 1 person out of every 10 that reads this sends them a dollar, it'll be great!

me & some of the kids

Paypal sent, happily. I figure it's worth every penny so long as you keep us up to date. The story of your travel is way more entertaining than any issue of Motorcyclist or Sport Rider, so I may as well pay for the entertainment. Especially when it's a good cause.
