woo hoo! great finish to a great report. I live between Nashville and Huntsville, and when I heard you had made it home I knew what weather you had to come through. Not a fit day... Funny how we had a few weeks of cold and wet, but lately it's been warmer and drier. Now if I could only find some riding time...

Can't wait for your next adventure and thanks for letting us tag along.

Just thought y'all would like to hear how your $ was helping out the orphanage in Kiev, 1st, a note from Sean, my friend in England who supplied the paypal account, & has transferred the $ to Bogdan via western union

    Hi Doug,
It was just over $1000. there's a little
more (maybe about $150), but i'll let it accumulate up again so's not
to 'waste' the transfer fee as it's a flat rate. there's still small
amounts coming in. The fact that they
have been able to keep the bus on the road is very important with
getting the kids to school / college / work etc as well as for trips
etc. thanks again for all you have done. i've managed to catch a
couple of your articles in the horse mag; makes a good read!
hope you get enough work in over the winter period.
    cheers,
    sean

    and a note from Anya

    Hello Sean!
Thank you very much for your help with finances from Doug
We have received everything. This is a very timely support - we are
in a process of fixing our bus and now we have enough to pay for the
repair. God has provided exactly the amount we needed. God is great!

    Bogdan, Anya and the children.

So I thank everyone who has sent them something. I look forward to visiting them again this next summer, & will post a follow-up when I do.

Of course, as everyone knows, Christmas is coming up, so next time your on paypal buying a new LCD TV, dont forget to send them a dollar.
If this ride report didnt give you at least a dollars worth of entertainment.... well, then your just a cheap-ass.
    :D
    heres the paypal address office@exousia.demon.co.uk

just put Bogdan in the subject line, & Sean will make sure all of the $ raised goes right to them.

Also, I am getting together a package to send them for christmas, so if anyone has an old digital camera, or an MP3 player or such laying around, & would like to donate it to some kids for christmas, PM me, & I'll give you my address. (US Cell phones wont work over there)

    Thanks again,
    Doug

Careful Doug! You may end up having to buy a shipping container to send over all the the gifts.

I'm trying to think of what I can give up. How about a nice chain saw?

I've followed this one from the beginning Doug and what an interesting report it's been.

You're clearly completely crazy to do it on a hardtail chop but that's what adds that certain cachet to the story. I still smile at the "what bike number".

Today £25.00 has gone to the Kiev orpahnage paypal account. I hope that it does a little to improve things there.

Doug, this journey has made my current deployment go a little faster, and inspired me to do some adventure riding myself. I've got two chops in the works back home, and thinking they need some serious miles on them when I get done.

Next time I'm back in Bama, I'll keep my eyes peeled for you.

    Congrats,

You done us proud. I reposted a nice photo of you and your ironhorse to keep it clean. The Wrong Way Round on a Chopper on your own without a support team (as opposed to LWR) is quite an achievement in my opinion.

Yep, that is definitely the biggest adventure. It is one thing to do it on a new GS or similar, another thing altogether to do it on a bike so old that most people would not ride it across town without backup.

Although I think this thread shows that simple old low tech bikes that have been properly sorted out are in fact quite appropriate for RTW tours. :clap

Doug...one of my favorite reports ever. I've enjoyed it from the beginning.

Thanks for the heads up/reminder about the kids...will PayPal a few bucks this morning. Hopefully enough folks will pony up to allow these kids to have some kind of Christmas.

If you will PM me your address, I'll get a box of "stuff" together for them.

    Best......John

Great trip to read about this, so many pages, great observation and photos! :clap

I've gotta go to Gabrovo (nr Veliko Turnovo) soon, near your bike motel, Doug. I hope to have time to drop in. Not going by bike though (from London). Bit snowy maybe at this time, should be good in the summer. Glad to see you got home and started planning. :clap
