Yeah, I didn't even think to question it. I've put in many 600+ days on a street bike, all on mountain backroads, NOT interstate. Including gas stops, ass stops, food stops, etc, that can make for long days. I think I've put in a few 250+ mile days on my TW, this year, here in the SE, mostly off-road. Both types of rides made for long days, and wore my old ass out. But more than once, at the end of those trips, I coulda kept going if circumstances had allowed. So, yeah, a 500ish mile day out there, where I assume much of it was flatish and wide open riding... while making for a long day in the saddle, why would anyone make it up?? Cool trip! Thanks for sharing it, and the photos!

Yuck. That brings back memories. Got caught a few times between Warm Springs Res and Hwy 20 after a rain or light snow. That stuff in slick and very sticky. My pickup tires would go from a 33" to a 37" really fast. Mikey
Plus 1! Yeah, Ryan's TW vid is, without equal, the best TW centered production anywhere online. Good post!
Thanks for posting that! It was fun and funny. Very well done action sequences. And at 2:36 I finally got to see a good ol' TW spray dirt yeehaw!

55F out and overcast, overall very nice out after some rain yesterday morning. I did some overgrown (or fresh made) singletrack but gave up after a few miles as I was getting whipped by thorns and vines were grabbing the brake lever and the trail looked like it was getting worse. That was a nice open spot at the start. There were motorcycles around Atsion at the ranger station but I did not see any on the trails. Only about 50 miles, I was very tired from doing stuff around the house before going.
So just trying to get my project tw together simple, cheap as possible. Ended up putting a 14x 4.1 rear tube in the back with stock tire. Think it will hold up?
Probably should name the TW... Something fitting for rising from the dead and still being stubborn... After getting all the front end stuff together I think my speedo was a casualty of the snapping forks incident (as well as my steering lock...) but then it would barely start after sitting for a week (I have a life you know...) and then it would idle but any throttle would introduce a massive stutter... a rythmic fire then nothing then fire again... no fuel smell... Pulled carb and managed to snap the pilot jet so it may be like 2weeks!!! For a replacement in the meanwhile I guess I should check valves and doublecheck that the pulse generator in the housing in in there good... But 2 weeks for a pilot jet! This kind of sucks...
What's the cheapest these things go for? Hard to find one used even if it's beaten all to hell for under 4k. Just got an RS100 for my winter riding and it's good fun but I'd like all-season all-terrain, these things seem like a mini KLR in terms of indestructibility
a recent example, $2,500 https://lewiston.craigslist.org/mcy/d/lewiston-1995-yamaha-trailway/7237729489.html
They do seem to hold their value quite well. Sort of a niche bike. The small amount of people who like them/want them ask/pay top dollar most of the time. There are deals every so often. But Ive never owned a TW. Could never find a deal when Ive had the extra money.
