I just found this thread - like maybe it was lost?, nah never mind. When in or near Kyiv (capital) I know some folks there who could give you a hand with stuff if needed.

Since you are almost there, just north of Kyiv is Chernobyl. There are tours there now - not very long, I think about 2 hours max. Neat place to see what can happen when WTF won't even come close...

Also, there is a Ukraine (old USSR) tank training place north of Kyiv. They rent out a T88 tank for an hour and you can drive around their obstacle course. I can't remember the name of it. And BOY!, there are some major military (outside) museum-parks in Kyiv. Photo ops.

I know a few good 6ap (bar in russian), but you may not be interested in those...

Watch out in Poland and other places that are flooded to the max right now....

Keep the shiny stuff up and oil in.

I made it to Patras, & happened to meet up with quicktoys today.
I've actually had a few people on the trip so far that knew me thru ADV, my webpage, or my stories in The Horse.

Finally got sunny & warm here, riding north tomorrow, will upload pics sometime soon.

I went to Iran on a bike in 2007. I had no problem with getting a visa BUT i didn't know you also need a Carnet de Passage (en Douane) for your bike. They wanted me to enter Iran WITHOUT my bike and I would take it back when I finish my trip in Iran. :huh Idiots :rofl I had to bribe them so they finally let me in but on the Turkey-Iran border I spent 25 hours or so. :puke1 :D
A friend of mine went last year on a bike to Iraq and had absolutely no problem on the border. No visa necessary.

If you happen to be in Georgia (most beautiful country I ever saw) try the norhern part of it. It's called Svanetia and I do believe it's going to be hell on a bike that is far away from enduro bikes, but trust me it's worth going there.

    Have a fantastic trip!!

That looks like the Niederwald Denkmal. Monument to the Franco-Prussian war. I spent a lot of time in that area in my teen years. On a clear night it is a cool spot to hang out and watch the river traffic. Although is has been many years since I've been there it is cool to see places I've been in others' ride reports.

Today while trying to navigate my way through the 10000+ (some say closer to 15000) Harley Davidsons, I spotted a very familiar bike, a little dirty, but familiar.

It took me a little while, but eventually I spotted Doug ... here is the proof

It was nice meeting Doug and Paula (sp??) ........... and thanks for the t-shirt :thumb

those aren't your typical cruiser tires, are they? seems like I usually see a much thinner ribbed tire on the front, and nowhere near that kinda utility tread in the back?

Good luck Doug, may the force be with you. Be careful with Halliburton when you get to Iraq, heard it's a lot of them there!
