Hey! Hi from València, Spain. We are planning a trip to Albania next September and we want to ride the Thethi unpaved road. Anyone knows how difficult is it? We ride both 800 cc, Tiger and GS with mixed neumatic, no enduro´s one. We have ride several unpaved roads, here in Spain and also in The Alps but we are no enduro riders... So, what do you think?

    Thanks!

Been doing a pile of research on that area for an upcoming trip myself.
    No first-hand experience (yet).
Roaming around the European forums, Youtube and the usual haunts like Horizons etc. show many variations of the "themes" below...

    SH21 "highway-to-Theth"
It's sealed to the top of the pass, about 12-14km short of Theth. After that....

    A little read-up? https://travelgeekuk.com/2017/04/09/the-road-to-theth/

The backroad (south out of Theth along the river Lumi i Shales) has a fiercesome reputation as a "ballbuster" (and bone-buster).

    Vienna-Wolf's trip in 2014...

Reportedly there are no changes/ improvements to that road.

Gotta make up your own mind, I guess.
Might see you around there in Sept then, maybe ? :-)

Don't forget Lake Komani and the SH22/ SH5 or the Iballe loop... :-)

    Hello.

I did Theth 5 years ago, going counter-clockwise. I wouldn't call it very technical, except for 1 or 2 short sections, one of which was about 100m of loose, fist-sized gravel, if I remember correctly. Granted, I was on a lightweight enduro, but I would have done it on a GS as well. Enduto tires would help, i.e. TKC70, K60 or better. Road conditions might be terrible, if there was recent rainfall.

We've experienced that half the trails in a 3 or 4 year old enduro guide book were already paved, as they're improving the road conditions, fast. So keep an eye on the date of information you're gathering ...
September is perfect for the Balkan, maybe I will go there once more, too.

We always go out on September, weather is perfect, kids are in the scholl (most of them!) and prices are lower than summer peak season. We are gonna ride for sure the north way to Theth but we have several doubts about south way, from pleaure to pain there is a very thin line...

SH25 to the lake, ferry (2.5-3.00hrs) to Fierza, then either the SH22/ SH5 (very scenic!) back towards Shkoder or the gravel to Iballe and south onto the SH5 (all sealed south from Iballe).

I'm currently digging for more info on that gravel road to Iballe.

Regarding credit cards refueling... most of petrol station don´t accept it. But is possible to pay in euros, although change usually is right, check it always... (Advice from This post in Bmw Motos Spanish forum)

Almost every gas station in Albania has a Mastercard or Visa sign in the window. Just for fun I spent one day in 2016(?) asking each station I passed, whether they would accept CC - none did. You can get money at ATMs though.

Sadly haven't got enough time to do even 10% of the roads and tracks and places that have materialized during the "homework" stages of this trip.
    There's sooo much!!
Theth only has 2 roads going in/ out....pick one for the "in", the other for the "out", no gps stuff needed.
