I guess I've only seen it after the "Improvements". I was there in '97 and last year and I didn't recognize it from your picture.
I probably wouldn't recognize Laconia these days either as I was there in '88 before they went Nascrap.

I first saw Laguna in 1974. The tallest things in the pits were weeds.

My wife and I had our pre-marital honeymoon at the '88 USGP. She has wanted to go back to Monterey ever since.

I have a pic somewhere of Lawson coming into victory lane, helmetless, after tossing it into the crowd. If I can dig it up. I'll post.

And speaking of Superbike Racing, MotoAmerica has added a 3-round Heritage Cup to it's schedule. Hoping Road America is one of the rounds.
The #179 Z1 that won the '75 AMA Superbike Race at Pocono will be contesting at least one round.

There's a class for those bikes in AHRMA; it's called Philip Island-XR69 Suzukis, Yamaha FJ 1200 motors in endurance-type chassis and such. They are finding ways of devising classes for all non-current racebikes.

Early Superbikes ... my favourite racing bikes. Luckily, even today I stumble upon them from time to time. What a look, what a sound.

Classic Superbike racing is very "popular" in Europe, and I have tons of materials (pictures and videos). I might put something here ... if you don't mind.

How many different class structures? Some seem highly modified while others, like the Eddie Lawson painted bike, even have stock footpegs and brakes. Great videos. Thanks.

Ah ... you have FIM classes, regional associations classes, club level classes ... always have to check details before season start. But, on club level - at the moment, for year 2020. - this is an example (IGFC club from Austria):

A: vintage and post-vintage up to year 1969.
B: old bikes up to 175 ccm; 1970 - open
C: old bikes up to 250 ccm; 1970 - open
D: old bikes up to 400 ccm; 1970-1990
E: old bikes up to 500 ccm; 1970-1990
F: racing and sportbikes up to 750 ccm; 1970-1990
G: racing and sportbikes over 750 ccm; 1970-1990
H: old sidecars, up to 1990.
    I: youngtimer up to 850 ccm; 1991-2002
    J: youngtimer over 850 ccm; 1991-2002
    K: supersport up to 850 ccm; 2003-2020
    L: superbike over 850 ccm; 2003-2020
    M1 and M2: International Sidecar Trophy (F1 and F2)

I'll post more videos this week. Enjoy.
