Man, that looks nice! They really had something when they made that. How does it handle on slab? Excuse my stupid questions, I'm not a BMW guy so I'm not familiar with their past models.

The guys beat me to it... or rather beat me to a good wifi :photog the one thing the two branches share is the engine, with small differences but the F650 engine is mostly the same.

They do surprisingly well. even on knobbies, weighted down like mine is now i have no “chicken strips” on the front tire :eek2 on grooved shitty concrete and a worn out front knobbie, it can catch a little wobble but the wobble is short lived and self-cancelling.

on street tires this thing goes like hell! hence they made Xmoto version for a while.

i still find it hard to beat. especially since i paid 5k out the door with ~3k miles on it.

i have over 44k on now.

    :super:thumb

so! here i am, at some proper campground enjoying the random cop car sirens... who would have known huh? just so i can experience this whole RR on the go thing!:photog

Today was day three, spills and thrills... but... day two!

I woke up still too close to SoCal. way too close. the track to access NF land was blockaded by a huge, fancy walled metal gate of some private... who knows what! :mrskbasa
It probably was good that i had no spraypaint with me otherwise they'd have their name corrected... i mean, block the road, fine, but leave the trail markers visible through the gate that say “your ohv funds at work” wow... i was so speechless that... i did not take a photo :photog

the detour from that yielded this shot though.

top of the hill, right by the cell towers and a juicy bypass to the assholed route from before :ricky

    then...

    you guessed it...

another gated track. this one leading off of NF land, potentially private, and obviously not used for ten years or more... chance if and fight some mad land owner or fallen timber?

60 miles around the whole area, two hours later, the smile is slowly returning!

i guess pavement can be nice too :ricky

    The views certainly were!

And then the trail was reintercepted! Took me to the top of a hill, with a cabin for sale. cheap. even comes with an old pickup!

the fireplace looks pretty good though!

the driveway looks even better! :clap

Press on with the track, as i sense some good flow down below!

what’s that!? there’s gotta be a bridge somewhere here!

    found it!! :rofl

After i crossed the bridge and ran up half way i noticed some crazy geyser from shooting the rocks... spy cam ops engage!

while out spying around... the light was just too perfect shining to the east... bliss riding all around, finally!

literally in every direction! but this direction looked nicer! :happay

    simple bliss!

spirits were high and so the water in the creek! :hmmmmm

needless to say, the fan went out immediately upon immersion, everything knee deep was soaked, and dielectric grease in the ignition coils did the trick! @Burro driver

i suddenly remembered i could put the gopro on my side shroud and possibly film it getting submerged but... as tempting as that was, i decided not to chance it again :augie

i will remember the camera next time. i’m starting to remember how this whole thing is done now. well. it actually only occurred to me today. on day three. its always the day 3 that gets everything in motion! :norton

    Until then!

Great update @flying.moto! Glad the creek crossing didn't involve any swimming or water intake into the motor.

Looks like some great terrain you've covered; hope the smoke isn't too bad? Couple shots look a bit hazy...

    Knobby side down :D

    Day 3!

Good morning y’all! how’s it riding?

    Woods riding galore here! :ricky

    From the highest highs~

    to the wettest lows!

It was incredibly tempting to jump in,

but... the day’s magic hasn’t kicked in yet.... and trail anxiously tapped on my shoulder... with a hammer i think

    And there was a bridge!

Wait s minute! is that an optical illusion?!

need a closer look! spy cam engage!

    or maybe this angle...

    Bear tracks next!

The top ridge roads were covered with tracks! Not the GPS kind either :eek2

i always knew they’d rather take the roads too! :norton

    Then, the first challenger appears!

The second one coming in too close! a second later or a little faster and... nice try!

Just kidding! although my own dust plus a little tailwind did make a cool action shot, right? :jack

    All cleared up!

    and off to the top!

up here, you can see the evidence of old fire and rebirth...

This day, in a way seemed like the bridge theme would be it, but... other sights were plenty as well! Still...

    lots of bridges!

cruising up along the rocky path, the bridge appeared once again

i love woods riding! i totally forgot how much slower it is than desert racing.... but!

the perfect day always ends up being the third day of any ride :ricky

bliss evening of stars once again!

Day 4 was rather short on fun... a bit lost in thoughts and ticked off at some land-grabbing corporations....

Morning was blissful and very much perfect high-speed dirty fun!

    this one for you @chokozip

one more awesome bridge about 17 miles into the mountain! yeah! :ricky

    then suddenly :becca

it seems like these asshats know exactly whose toes they're stepping on...

twice more rerouted, another hour of trying to find my way around the area i had enough of it and slabbed it for my friends’ place in Red Bluff. My job seems to want me back earlier now, so i gotta cheat a bit if i want to see any Oregon. Its triage mode for a minute... but, i’m sure the best is yet to come!

At least i got this photo! worth the annoyance with the closures, right? I come to find out that this “Sierra Pacific Industries” is the biggest logging company here, second largest land owner in the country... and i guess when you are THAT big and wealthy, no laws apply and you can just buy up even National Forest public land... sad. :cry

A hundred miles of country roads got those annoying thoughts cleared as i found myself near a saloon! :lol3

i wonder how busy this place was pre-covid. looks like it could have been fun~

But, I made it to Red Bluff airport. that’s where i stayed last night.

not too smoky, until this morning... a little maintenance on the bike now and off for day 5 :super
