    Someone have a link to a site that sells those 4x144 to 4x100 or another 4 lug car wheel adapters? I can find them in 4x144 to 4x110...

    go back a page i linked em us adapters, but $ for $ you could get quad wheels and dot rubber for less than the cost of the adapt+car tires+wheels

    Quads are a pain on pavement, they do "steer hard" and they are rider active, that is you have to move around on them to keep them flat.

    Plus some of them don't have differentials in the back, just a solid axle.

    As for braking, From driving a Trex and riding a Spyder, and a MP3, there's plenty of it. the larger contact patches and more weight over the front wheels
    with the natural stability of the 2x1 set up means you can stop pretty hard.

    There is a lot of suspension set up that has to be thought out for this to work right,
    Toe, Camber and just the mechanics of the suspension and steering travel.

    If it's right it should be easy to ride, if it's wrong it can be a nightmare.

    Me personally I'd look for a larger ute ATV that has a blown transmission or engine, then graft the whole front end of that ATV onto the bike
    Working to keep the weight for an aft just about the same.
    Then I'd run more narrow street focused square section tires and wheels on the front and a square section on the rear.

    I'd also run the ATV style bars but converted back to a normal twistgrip throttle and not the thumb throttle of an ATV.

    One draw back of a three track vehicle, you have a wheel in every part of the lane, so it's harder to avoid hazards in the road.
    They are also quicker to over-steer vs a four wheel road vehicle.

    Another drawback of an ATV front conversions, the front wheel track is more narrow than that of a even a small car
    So there is an elevated risk of the front end wandering around rain grooves, especially on the older concrete pavement that's so common in the northwest.

    Did some measuring today; from the looks of things, I might get away with notching the frame, instead of just lopping off half of it. The way I figure it, If the bottom of the TRX frame is the same width of the Vulcan Frame, it might not be a bad idea to just cut away the top half of the TRX frame up to where I need to weld it to the Bike. There'd be hell for stout structural integrity...
    15 x 7 ATV/UTV wheels (or larger) for these hubs is proving a headache...I may just have to go with a 4 x 144 to 4 x 110 adapter after all...

    Picked up some good condition shocks for the front that pair well with the rear set. Not air adjustable, but they were gifted by a fan of the project. There's a small dulled spot on the chrome where some sort of etchant spilled on one of them.
    Brain storming with DBW the other night about how to mount he ATV frame.
    If my first wife (A Masters Gymnast, CPA, and now owner of a "Pain Clinic" where she pushes her book on physical therapy, even though she's never been to any type of medical school) were to wax opine on this, it would just piss me off; however DBW grew up in a garage. Her dad was a front end alignment specialist. She knows about frame alignments, wheel alignments, and is probably a better wrench than I. So she asked "If you're going to just notch the ATV frame, and weld the bottom part to the bike for more structural strength, can't you just leave a bit extra where you cut to mount the top to the front of the frame, then heat it and bend it then weld the bends to the frame?" I just stared. She went on. "Then, you wouldn't have to move the radiator, you could just spot weld new mounting nuts to the frame and remount the radiator. You'd get better frame alignment, and structural strength that way, too..."
    now, just to show me just how good she is at anything she tries, she's canning up another 2 gallons of her "Sweet and Sour hot sauce" Made with love, and three of the hottest peppers in the world, and a host of others from the garden. It's just hot enough to make you break a sweat, and AMAZING on anything it touches...
    So I put it to you guys, What do you think of her idea?

    If I understand your description correctly I think that she has an excellent idea. :thumb
    A sketch would make it clear what is bent where and where the welds will be but I think I see what you mean.

    Man don't I know it. She had to drop out of school back in '68 because she was pregnant. Had our youngest at 17 (I was 11 at the time, 14 years before we met) When that son was in his senior year, she decided that there was no way he was going to graduate before she did, so she took the tests for the GED. She took them cold; no time to study. The lowest score she got was a 97%, the highest, 99% I think there were 5 tests. We're two of the power hitters for science (Me) Math (Her) and literature (Both of us) on our trivia team. Her spatial reasoning skills are off the damned chart. She can look at a space, no mater the shape, and tell you if what you want to put in that space will fit...
    As for the steering lining up, there's enough metal there to make sure it does.
    She's sketching up designs for the fiberglass body panels for the front end. Plans on doing mock-ups / molds out of plaster Papier-mâché. I've seen some of the things she's done using that method. She'd still like to incorporate a trunk up front....

    so her plan is exactly how i would do it as far as attachment, but any trunk would REQUIRE moving the rad so you get cooling....id plan to move the rad to the front using a combination of hard n soft lines , then you could trunk up behind it and maximize how much space you can use

    now as for the steering...id doesnt NEED to be inline with the neck actualy, as you could just use a double u-joint setup from a toyota PU or any other small import for that mater, the more important thing is to keep the frames aligned and that the quads rake is maintained so that the steering GEO stays where it should...if the rear is too low or too high the akerman and the bumpsteer get out of whack, kinda like a car jacked up in the back on skyjackers or a lifter truck squating its ass into the weeds hauling

    with that in mind 15inch wheels may very well be too tall to maintine the angles, actualy after a measurement of my wifes 400ex and a crossreferance to my zr7-s theres almost no way to go 15s on it short of lifting the rear of the bike as well or grafting the quad frame higher up on the front of the bike to pre-adjust for 15s unless you can find a low profile 15 shorter than 21inches

    hate to say it but imo your better off running stock quad wheels with DOT street rubber to save on mucking with angles , if you were grafting to say a dirt bike tail thats lifted way up, and your not loading it down then you could very well get away with 15s or larger as you would need to compensate to make up the angle offset

    point of referance, under relaxed weight the 400ex sits at a lil under 12 centerline of the lower tube, im willing to bet your bike sits somewhere in the 8-10 area, being a cruiser its probably even lower of course natural "squat" with rider needs to be taken into account too, but my wifes on a BC run so i cant get a with weight measurement atm

    my personal plan for the lloyd im going to do for a friend will be to use the same setup your doing for the front, wheels will either be 80s mustang/t-bird spare aluminums re-drilled as they are 4lug or plug/redrill newwer CV/linc/gmq aluminum spares which are 5x114, i prefer to not run adapters if i can help it

    that said i had found a place that did "any spacing" adapters for around 100-150 per pair, so you could go that route and then run the fairly easily found ford aluminum spares which come in 15, 16, 17 and are SKINNY, LIGHT,CHEEP, 10-25$ at any pick n pull...yeah not a set price cause sometimes they ring you up wonky, there are 2 styles too that you may like, 1 set is smooth like the early mustang/bird the other has holes drilled in it, either would look like a bike wheel if you tossed bike rubber on it

    if your dead set on a 15+, below is what i would be chasing

    all of these wheels are plenty strong and LIGHT no...you dont get how light these wheels are....all of them..the stock quad fornt wheels n tires are basicly the same weight

    these are the early ones, guys want a bit more than id like but you could have em re-drilled to 144 easily..another alternative would be most any 4 lug "drag front" wheel would have room for a re-drill

    these all "might" have enough meat on them to just be re-drilled, ill check tommaro
    heres the "new" 5 lug styles which come in 15-18 tho the 18s seem to be very hard to come by, the 17s seem to be in explorers escapes and such 16s are common in the gmq/vic etc IE panther platform, 15s are the "earlier" panthers, 16 and 17 can be found in mustangs as well

    this first one is the most common style to find as well as its "sister" which is simmilar but different

    I might have to take you with me, when I go shopping for wheels...
    At that point, with the idea of narrower tires, I'm back to just punch out the spindles and have new ones made and use bike wheels. We're still working on the the plans on mounting the TRX frame to the Vulcan, and now I'm wondering if the old guy down the street will be around when it comes time. He just turned 71, and he's not in the best of health....
    With my luck, I'll get everything ready, and end up with no one to do the welding... Because I sure as hell suck at it.

    Looking at all of the options. Right now the main goal is to get this on the road, There's a great advantage to using the parts we are using, and that's the idea that Front end parts are readily available.
    That being said, I sourced a machine shop just up the road that can make a set of custom spindles so that we can use stock Vulcan wheels.
    Yeah I know, I should use a wider tire for a bigger contact patch, and further down the road when I can afford that I might. I like the looks of that.
    But....
    Crunching the number tells me that going this route will save us about 3-4 hundred bucks.
    All we need is another front wheel, and the spindles. I can fab up mounts for the calipers here in the shop. but for roughly $150-$200, I can get the spindles made.
    That and the new wheel comes in far below what wheels and tires (With or without adapters) would.
    So Thursday next, I'll take one of the current spindles, and the front axle over to the machine shop, and get an estimate.
    Still have to do the Tuxedo Mod on that Stator...

    is it truely cheeper? i would think grabbing a cheep set of EO honda front quad wheels and DOT street rubber, all you would need then is what, the calipers?, somehow i doubt going the custom spindle route and vulcan wheel to be cheeper, tho i do understand the athstetics

    I looked at that. Hubs are $35.00 naked. Plus rotors, plus calipers and pads, plus wheels, (Which look stupidly small in comparison with the rear wheel) and tires. If I go the Vulcan front wheel route, I already have the rotors, calipers, and pads...and they match the existing rear wheel, which makes the bike look more stock...
