I was toying with the idea of moving the rally to a new location next year, a possible location we found would be near Bryson City.

watcha think - stay put or move back and forth???

    Black Bear

+ great facility & indoor area (think rain)
    + owners love us
    + good kitchen facilities
    + limited to 200
    + central "party area"

    - same riding area
    - no RV/truck camping
    - parking
    - limited to 200

    New location:

    + larger campground
    + RV/truck camping
    + great/new riding area
    + owners want us
+ 4 big vacation rental houses next to campground
    + room to expand

    - less showers/bathrooms (2 each) and more porta potties
    - no indoor area (I would have to rent a big tent)
    - no kitchen space
    - less cabins
    - room to expand
    - could split in a bunch of little "private" party areas

any other pro's and cons??? post 'em up

I've only come to 2 rallies down here, so I have not ridden all of the trails. Probably never would, even if I hit it for the next 5 years. Was talking with my cousin about coming down with the camper (although it might be cheaper to ride down and rent an RV) and the bikes in tow to free up limited health resources to enjoyment rides.

Although, if what I heard round the rumor mill about the other place being local to a popular riding spot... that would be a downer for me. Hordes or crowds would be a definite con. Is the event sustainable with our current attendance, and how close are we to peaking?

Nice thing about Black Bear is everyone is forced to be close to one another. A new location I could drag my camper to would be sweet. Can I vote after CADAVR? Bonebag switched locales, and I wanna see how it pans out. The missus says we're coming back next year, so there's that.

I like the cabins, I hate porta potties, we need a kitchen, we need an indoor area, 200+ people would be even more difficult to manage. Black Bear is great to me.

I thought I'd consider anywhere I didn't have to ride up Dennis Cove Rd until I saw "less showers" and "No indoor area"
If we get hit with sucky weather again that big room really comes in handy! and who wants to hang around with a bunch of stinky guys???

I guess I'm kind of getting used the that road after all LOL

Being close to each other is definitely a plus. Nottarally ended up with a bunch of private parties in different locations - that's why I moved it.
Keep me posted how it goes; I like to have a location secured (with contract) by the end of the summer.

thanks. But I need somebody to tell me what to do for a change :D

Do to space limitations, we can't have RV camping at Black Bear, that's one of the reasons I am considering moving. On the other hand I do like not to have it "cozy", instead of looking at a ton of RV's where everybody hides by themselves.

We were pretty close to the max this year - about 185 due to no-shows. That still allows us to put out decent food. I would not want to cook for 300+ people (the food offerings would definitely we simpler)

I am spoiled by the indoor plumbing at Black Bear. Nothing grosser than sharing a porta potty with 150+ drunk guys.

All seriousness aside, lobster nailed it- having everyone around one campfire made this year a great rally. At some rallies it's easy to stay spread out and challenging to get together.

This was one of those years where everyone felt like one big family. I can't remember ever having a better group of people around. It would have been a great loss if the cheese heads, locals, regulars, hillbillies, Yankees, young guys, old guys, and random interlopers had all kept to themselves instead of mingling around the one and only fire.

Or maybe I was just drunk :lol3

Inmates can be "cozy" the rest of the year. No one wants a decline in food quality. Isn't 200 enough. How many faces and names can one person learn when every one has two names to begin with. Dennis cove road is awesome and let's all the noobs know they are in the right spot. Lack of service is a plus in my book. Unavoidable congregation spots also a plus. Only negative is the locals can't drive on their side of Dennis cove road and the rocks around the camp fire are really f'in hard. Oh yeah, are they gonna fix the urinal by the hall before next year?

there is one bathhouse with 2 or 3 showers and 3 toiletts each, so us gals would be fine.
