I would separate from the group today. They would continue on and finish the last leg of the Baja course.
I was ready to make my way down to Los Barriles and relax. A friend of mine rented a house on the beach for a month and I was going to hang out there awhile.

    The guys did some maintenance.

I took my time this morning and got a late start. I'd be riding street now and thought I'd get down to Los Barriles with time to spare.
It turned out to be a long day and it was well after dark by the time I got there.

I managed to lose $200 in Loreto. I was having trouble with the tv and asked a maid to look at it. She then asked another to help her. I had all my things strewn out in the room.
I then had to go down to the bike for something, leaving them alone in the room.
It's possible it got taken then, but I can't be sure. It's my own fault for not policing it better.

Ready to leave the hotel and Loreto. Loreto is a nice town.
We rolled in here back in 2013 late at night with 15 riders. We had just ridden from Comundu over the mountains on that gnarly ass road. All at night. What an adventure that was.

It was a beautiful ride going south out of Loreto. Then as I dropped down toward Insurgentes it started getting hot.
Just as I got there I got stung by a bee on my arm. Not good. I would swell up later.

I made a mistake not fueling up. I thought I could make La Paz. Bad move.

Eventually I was going to start stopping at houses to see if I could buy some. There weren't many houses. I stopped at one, but no luck. I then stopped again and they told me there was a gas station down the road.

Thank goodness for this new gas station in Los Pocitas. What a life saver.
    IMG_1685.JPG

It was dark when I rolled into La Paz.
I then finally made it down to Los Barriles. The road down to the house was a wash. I rode in there and picked up speed in the sand then I got slammed to the ground.
All that gear on the back of the bike made the front to light in the sand.
I lay there pinned down by the bike, but not in any danger. I thought it was funny. I dug myself out and paddled down to the house.

    IMG_1686.JPG

Not a bad place to spend 9 days relaxing, eh?
    IMG_1688.JPG

My buddy fed me some Don Julio 70 tequila. That's good stuff there.
I caught him up on the trip so far.
He's a Baja veteran of many bike trips himself.
The next day my arm was real swoll from the bee sting and I slept about 15 hours.

All good things must come to an end. After 9 days of sun and relaxing, I was ready to get on the bike and get going.

I headed south toward Cabo, but first checked out Santiago.

San Jose del Cabo, not so nice. Cabo San Lucas much nicer.

My buddy told me to check out Latitude 22.

It would be mostly pavement back to San Diego via San Felipe. About 1200 miles, then back up to Escondido to my truck.

    This place.

I was looking for that just right spot when I saw a few bikes down by the water.
Playa El Coyote was the place. I got a few beers up the road at the store and then set up camp.
