Thunder Mountain Rendezvous Hotchkiss Colorado September 23-25, 2016
Come join the BMW Riders of Western Colorado at the Delta County Fairgrounds in downtown Hotchkiss on Color weekend, (the high country fall colors will be at their peak), on the Western Slope of Colorado. Our rally offers a centrally located base camp for exploring the Uncompahgre Plateau, the Grand Mesa, the West Elks, and the San Juans. Our low elevation venue allows for warmer nights in late September, and includes a large meeting hall, restrooms with showers, plenty of grassy camping and the convenience of walking to downtown restaurants, stores and motels. The grass is one of the nicest places you have ever pitched a tent and the manager is very protective. It has a pipe fence around it and no vehicles or pets are allowed inside. There is a grassy area outside the fence where you can camp with your furry buddies. There is no camping on the grass in the park until after 5:00 pm on Thursday September 22. There are a few smaller RV spots with electricity and water, no sewer for $6 per night, first come first serve. The are other parking areas suitable for dry camping with any size rig.
Motels and B&B's can be found at: http://www.hotchkisschamber.com/21839 Your rally fee of $40 before (Aug 15),$50 at the gate, gets you dinner Friday and Saturday nights, continental breakfast Sunday morning, camping, free coffee and tea, door prizes, ride presentations and movies both Friday and Saturday nights inside Heritage Hall. Adventure rides, (all abilities), and scenic road rides will be mapped out and waiting for exploration. On Saturday morning the local H.S. Booster Club fundraiser pancake breakfast includes scrambled eggs, pancakes and ham; please be generous. I'm happy that they decided to do this in the fall. Western Colorado is fantastic that time of year. Count me in.

I was just up on Grand Mesa last week. The old rally site north of Cedaredge looks a bit different as they cut down a lot of the juniper. One of these years I'll make it to the new rally site.

The rally is less than three weeks away, the trees are starting to turn and we have had snow on the high peaks.
Schools back in session and the riding is great in Colorado.

So I was just looking at the Cannonball schedule.
The Cannonball "race" is going to be passing through Colorado (Pueblo, Durango, & then Page AZ) a few days before the Rally in Hotchkiss.
Not perfect timing, but it might be a chance for some of us to "kill 2 birds with one stone" so to speak.
Think I'll head to Durango a few days before the Hotchkiss rally and check out the antiques. :thumb

This years Cannonball is a centennial celebration ................ so no bikes NEWER than 1916 in the race!
    No shit!
All entries are 1916 and OLDER! :eekers
There are actually ADV Inmates doing this run.
Doug Wothke (RTW Doug) is entered and riding on a 1915 Indian!
I'll probably ride down and catch up with them in Durango and cheer them on.
BTW, I've watched these old bikes burp, snort, fart, etc. and it's a real treat to see them actually run. We've all seen them on calendars & museums ......... but to see them being ridden and hear and smell them run is really something to behold!
