The biggest slowdown you are going to face are speed bumps on a RoadKing. They are everywhere and many are unmarked in South America. Make sure that underside is protected somehow. Do they make skid plats for RoadKings?

For getting out of Bogota I'll second the recommendation of Veronica Mosquera with lyncargo.com She got my Dakar shipped in less than a week from Bogota & ready in Miami only a few days more. To save 15+ days you might ship from Bogota to Miami then ride up to Deadhorse skipping central America.

While I got from the USA to Panama in an impossible 10.5 days it was not to set any record but to keep my word with Ludwig to sail from San Blas. :) RadioMan would have enjoyed my spot if I didn't make it! My shipmates claimed it was a record as border crossings may take 3 or 4+ hours :eek1 and a few days for government approval after the Darian with help. :deal

I slept in a new country each night after breaking my right leg in Chiapas and fixing it myself. :muutt

Here is Veronica's 2013 contact info and location:

    veronicam@lyncargo.com
    Skype: veronikitamo (I think)
    Phone + (57-1) 742-5850

Check the address as it is much further north than my GPS showed in a big black and yellow building marked "Business Center" above the garage entrance. It is past Carrera 95. 4° 40.597'N, 74° 7.749'W on google earth.

    Best of luck!

Look at the bottom of my bike. I did not use Hose clamps but my friends at AIM Welding manufactured a custom skid plate that comes off with 6 screws. Easy for the oil change and protects my fan cooled oil cooler. Here is the video and pic for you to see.

Thank you for wishing me luck. I am going to Alaska not Miami. I think I will use Girag to fly the plane over to Panama. A boat will be plan B. I will fly to Columbia and check out the Girag facility and the docks. Scouting trip. Instead of driving down the whole route (cause I am employed) I will scout certain parts of my trip. so in conclusion I will fly my bike from Columbia to Panama over the Darien Gap.

How about letting me sleep on your couch when I pull in? I will gladly pay for any inconvenience and broadband to upload pics for my riders report.

PS.............I shared your website on my Facebook page named "Screaming Thunder FL" https://www.facebook.com/ScreamingThunderFL?ref=hl

I will be posting to Facebook and sending short emails by this device. It will also track me 100%! That's even if I take the wrong turn and end up in Antarctica. Depending on the country and hotel I might be able to upload at a min one pic but the higher bandwidth I can upload more. I read about this on ADV so any comments? Anyone own one? Good? Bad?

A LONG day in latin america is about 400 miles. I know that doesn't sound like much, but you'll see. You'll be trying for 700ish or so miles per day after which I can guaranty you won't have the patience, energy, or even the time to post photos.
