After assembling way to much stuff from the brown box truck and making holes in the walls, I was able to get my scoot from Sobek this afternoon so tomorrow I’ll start my ride to Delaware. And, for the record, I have now ridden in DC:-)

Note: Not the easiest place to pull over for pictures so took one of Union Station since I also like trains.

First stop of ride; lunch in Centerville, Maryland. A Swiss avocado wrap. I took US 50 from DC which uses a beautiful bridge at Annapolis to cross the bay; toll bridge and guess I’ll get a bill in the mail:2cry

The DELMARVA Peninsula is pretty dull riding most of the time, though you will find nice little towns here and there.

Don't know your plans heading north, but IF you get this in time STOP going north on the left side of the peninsula, find yourself a way across it to the east side at the base of Dover AFB. Right where the bottom corner of the base meets Rte 1, there's a road called Route 9. You can follow that on a nice leisurely run all the way from the AFB up to the Delaware Memorial Bridge. It runs through seaside marshes and over tiny bridges and is a LOT nicer than most of what you find in the center or west side of the peninsula.

Kevm, thank you for the info. However, I went south on highway 9. A recap, I left DC on highway 50 and went to New Castle, DE (however, after lunch I changed the GPS to adventurous routing which means I crossed into Delaware on a backroad without a welcome sign so no picture:(). From New Castle, I took highway 9 south and spending the night in Lewes (have a ferry reservation for tomorrow to go to New Jersey).

But a little west of New Castle, I saw this...

Originally I was just going to take a picture but in the last picture you can see the door is open so I stuck my head in to take a peek and the next thing I know a guy is inviting me to look around. The museum was actually closed but the guy ended up showing me around a bit and provided some history. If ever in the area, highly recommend a stop.

And, in New Castle, I saw what may be the oldest courthouse in the country. Neat looking town; I would like to return with my bicycle someday:D

And later in the day, I discovered another museum but not open plus the day was getting late. A little over 200 miles and a beautiful day.

Since you are headed to NJ, you might enjoy riding through the beach towns of southern New Jersey. They are probably to most interesting part of NJ as each community has its own look. Cape May, up through Atlantic City, or until you get bored ;-)

Glad to hear folks are enjoying. I know my followers aren’t in this for my high mileage days as today I barely rode over 100 miles:ricky

The ferry was a nice sail and the 85 minutes went by rather quickly. I even had an older guy, yes older than me, ask some questions about the boat since he thought I was a worker with my yellow jacket. He was a bit stunned when I replied “haven’t a clue”...

Bikes loaded first which is a nice touch.

After arriving in New Jersey, one more state to go, I knew I didn’t want to spend much time along the beach due to a lot of stop signs and lights so decided to explore Cape May which is where the ferry unloaded me. Nice community and beach; definitely would consider a trip for the Jersey shore in the future.

Afterwards , I made my way somewhat north to northeast but didn’t take any pictures since I was dodging rain or getting hit with rain. The joys of a long ride. Oh, and I never spotted the Jersey Devil while riding in the Pine Barrens; followed some scenic route signs for a while. A good day.

Today was an exciting day for me as I finally had the opportunity to meet and ride with MonkeyBut. Monkey has one of the best looking S10’s I’ve seen. Of course, I’m a little partial to the sand color.:ricky

We met in Lambertville and made a day of riding to the highest point in New Jersey. Also, courtesy of MonkeyBut, we had an excellent lunch; thank you again. I must say I finished the day impressed not only with the nice roads and minimal traffic of northern New Jersey but also experienced a great time chatting about riding and motorcycles. If surrounding ones life with the enjoyment of motorcycles, even for a few hours, could be called a religious experience, I would say MonkeyBut and I experienced such an event. Truly a wonderful day.

I lost track of the amount of times we crossed the Delaware river; no wonder Washington crossed it as he knew this would become prime riding land...

We ended the day at Highpoint memorial. While 1,800 feet isn’t all that high, I thought it was fun to reflect that I started my New Jersey ride practically at sea level yesterday and today I finished at the highest point.

Spent the night in Montecillo, NY and realized I wasn’t that far to Rhode Island. Also, while today was cold tomorrow is possibly going to have some rain so decided to get on some slab highways and get the goal. And I did:clap

I did take one small two lane highway in Connecticut, highway 34 to New Haven since the road followed a river. Turned out nice.

Connecticut is a pretty state but is somewhat tedious to navigate west to east on back roads; I’ll try to get more in on the return to DC.

My first stop in RI was the rest area/welcome center which was closed and had a few port a toilets in the parking lot; not an inviting scenario. Next I stopped at a place most of us know but is currently closed to visitors.
    025B36EC-EFDF-40E5-B04D-1B0F23755457.jpeg

Afterwards, I crossed this bridge to Newport. Major policy plunder, in my opinion, motorcycles pay same rate as cars which is $4. This didn’t seem fair to me but I don’t vote in RI so I paid up:dirtdog
