Cost about $200 - not bad for cruise if you ask me. Install has been kind of fun, if you were closer I'd help you do it if you decided to - it's somewhat involved but not terribly difficult. There is a very detailed thread on the Stromtrooper forum. Hope we find a way to have our paths cross in Alaska as well!
Just a suggestion - Contact Denis, XC Rider (link to his Alaska RR: KW to AK) and see if he has any information to share in regards to tires, or anything else to do with an Alaska trip.
Thanks for the congrats remarks. Speaking of long roads, Alex has taken one. What's amazing is how focused Alex has become on this goal. He spent six years at Auburn University switching majors until he graduated in Public Relations. He worked for ten years and then dropped into a Fire Fighting Academy. While getting his EMT training he decided medicine was for him. He went back into the corporate world full time and went through LPN training at nights and on weekends. He applied to RN transition programs. He works in a hospital using his now LVN in employee health. In May, at the age of 37, Alex becomes an RN. He wants to go on. It's either PA or NP that is his long term goal. He has a family tradition in medicine, so we are happy for him. Thanks again for the congratulatory remarks!
Sounds like it is going great for him. Lot of different areas he can work towards. I kind of went that route also. EMT, paramedic, flight paramedic, RN, ED RN, won the lottery.... shoot missed that last one Have to meet up at D2D and tell war stories!!
I am doing an Alaska Shakedown trip. On that April trip of 15 days and over 2000 miles I plan to tryout my setup for Alaska on the road. I started its own planning thread: http://advrider.com/index.php?threa...horn-from-fl-to-great-smoky-mt-np-nc.1207573/
I would love to ride in April, depends on the snow. Just about put studs on the KLX this winter. Maybe its time to move south?
Hey gpax. If your route still includes Reedsport, Oregon drop me a note when you know when you will be there and I will ride my DL650Adv out and ride up the coast with you a little ways. Would love to see how you set your bike up for your trip north. I am in Cottage Grove, Oregon and ride that section of the Oregon Coast often.
I would absolutely love that ... but my cousin who lives in Reedsport has my schedule full seeing family during my two days with him. Then I go see my "second son" and his new son in Portland for two days on my way to Spokane. I had not planned on taking my bike off the trailer until Spokane. I hoped to come back. Maybe next year. I hope you'll give me a "rain check". I lived on an island in Puget Sound 79 - 81 and love the Northwest but have never ridden the coastal highway. Spring is beautiful in the Smokies and along the Blue Ridge. I am gathering with friends at Tewster2's place for four days after Easter Sunday. I can't give out invites but if you can make it, PM Tewster2. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Received a new gadget for my trip. Western Digital Passport Pro Wireless 2TB. This solves a big problem for me. On a 90 day trip I will take oodles of photos. My SD cards can be directly copied (backed up). It has a large battery and a SD slot. Just insert the card and it copies automatically. I don't have a laptop. I just plug this unit into my desktop and it is a USB 3.0'ext disk drive. On the road I can wirelessly access the drive with my iPhone or iPad to post photos. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
