    Thanks again Mark...

I have done a lot of gravel in Ontario, some freshly graded and others not so much or at all...taken a few off road courses including the BMW one which included sand and single track but it was on my unloaded bike.

Something got into my head when planning this trip and I have to remember that I put myself in more remote/inaccessible/way worse "roads" locations last year on the TCAT...some trails would only see the occasional ATV during the season but mainly used during Moose hunting season. No need for the self rescue rope and pulleys on this trip!

Any icebergs visible? Icebergfinder.com shows a bunch along the Labrador Coast - especially near Pinware Park.

Never camped there, but that's known as iceberg alley. If you're gonna see icebergs, you'll see them there. The scenery could change every 45 minutes.

You have a few week window starting now.

Icebergs flow south due to the Labrador current. They come closer to shore based on the wind. If you wish to see them hope for a NE wind. If you are camping on the coast you may not like the temps with this wind.
    Everything is a trade off.

Just landed in Port Hope Simpson (from Goose, 410 km) . All gravel in good condition. We averaged 70 KM/hr (to 90 from Cartwright junction East). 5.5 hours with a couple pit stops. The black flies are bad! The temperature was hot inland (26 °C) and cold (11 °C) on the cost. I ride a '13 R1200GS LC and made it with 42km worth of gas left to spare... I didn't need my aux jug. Our only blip... my buddy sacrificed his rear fender to the TLH road God when it deflected from a large rock and the tire bit it! 200 km of gravel to go tomorrow as we head to Red Bay and the start of pavement.

If you do hit Iceberg Alley, be sure to go "through" town and climb the big hill, going beyond the town dump. Old Airforce gap filler station up there offering spectacular views.

I'm in Happy Valley. Headed south and east tomorrow. It's been a wet one! The temps, rain and bugs have forced me under roofs and inside walls.

I had 39 months, 28 days, eight hours, 15 minutes and about 40 seconds of "camping" experience with a previous "employer." My perspective has long since been changed. We had a saying way back then: "It doesn't take any practice to be miserable." Plus, every place I stayed had cold beer readily available.

Can anyone comment on current conditions of the highway. All the stuff I've seen online seems to be a couple years old. Might be heading up in July/August.

Probably be tent camping or staying with ADVers to save $, but thanks, you never know when you might need a break from camping on those long rides.

There's an excellent report posted a few days ago of current condition, pavement, dirt, fuel, and distance of each. I'll try to find the thread.

Last I looked, they were paving from Happy Valley/Goose Bay to Red bay at 80km's a year... The Newfoundland Ministry of Transport will give you some information.

When I went with a buddy two years ago in August my intention was to Camp as much as possible. We didn't camp much, the bugs were Brutal and I love camping even with bugs.
