I'm with the get up early crowd, wife and I are usually up by 4:30am anyway.. work or not... I try to have feet up by sunrise...typically means I'm riding alone but in many ways I prefer that.

Buddy of mine here in VA is planning a business trip out to San Diego next week. Looking at renting a bike from 360 Motorcycle Adventures and exploring the area. He's concerned about the temps and thinking about nixing the bike plans. Advice?

it's cooling down next week with a chance of precipitation.
if you're cruising into the mountains, then start early in the city and head into the mountains.
San Diego will be in the mid 70's so you'll be fine.

Thanks for the reply. I should have been more specific re; his proposed route is along the Baja. Neither one of us familiar with that part of the world so excuse our ignorance. FWIW, he's rented a F650 GS.

If you stay on the coastal route it should be cooler I’d imagine.

114 when I left work today. Within 2 miles I was in a rain/hail storm and the temp dropped to 97 and I was soaked. Coolest ride home in weeks.

Not me but the clouds I see starting to build over the east side of White Mountain and into the desert are making me happy.

So, I went to Death Valley yesterday and made it back. Cooling vest is working, but of course not making it an ocean drive. Camped in Wildrose, which helped too (it was too late to get to Mesquite before sunset).
Ya'll should visit sauna more often, to practice! :jack

Left Central CA Saturday morning at 4:00 a.m., it was 80 degrees, to have coffee in San Luis Obispo with a friend at 6:30 a.m. By the time I got to the James Dean Memorial, it was 61 degrees. Had to stop and put on a sweatshirt.

It was the same temp in San Luis. Rode to Avila for breakfast, 63 degrees, then headed north on highway 1 to the road closed sign 6 miles north of Ragged Point. Stopped to talk to the traffic control gal and she said highway 1 will be open all the way through this Thursday. Official Opening will be Friday at Ragged Point if any of you want to join in.

Temps remained in the low 60's all along highway 1. But, when I headed home from Cambria, it quickly warmed up to over 100 degrees and I spent the last 2 hours of the 400 mile day in 107 degree heat.

If you ride north of Pismo on highway 1 and 101 all they way to Canada, you will ride in 60 degree weather most of the trip. That is where the cool weather is this time of year. But as soon as you ride inland from the Pacific Ocean, temps can rise to over 100 degrees in less than 15 miles in many places along this route.

Saw some great vintage vehicles at Ragged Point. The road closure didn’t seem to have a negative affect on their business. Almost every parking spot taken.

Saw several Morgans on the road on this trip. Maybe there was a rally. Beautiful cars.
