I'd suggest you read William Least Heat Moon's book, Blue Highways before you go. Find you a three or four calendar diner in each town. Strike up a conversation with the waitress about your "quest," loud enough for folks to over hear. You'll probably have some GREAT stories to tell when yer through.

Sounds like a good reason to me. I've taken road trips just because I've had time to kill.

Sept. '03, Las Vegas to Sacramento via Wyoming :lol3

to visit the largest and oldest trees in each state is a noble ride quest...

large, old trees force me to ponder past and future life

Not seeing any roads to that part of AK. It came up on my list. Looks like some of these are in rural areas.

I'll limit this to the ConUS. It looks like at least 4 loops out and back home taking four days on the short one of 1800 miles to 7-10 days for the two 4500+ trips. Three so far take about 11,000+ miles. I've routed all the NE, West, and South "Gordons"... the SE will be another long trip with the most targets to see.

15,457 miles and I woud see damn near the whole country.

Mods... can we move this to Trip Planning?
