I too have greatly enjoyed reading this RR. Hoping to do a trip to St Petersburg overland and via Norway at some point in the near future (perhaps next summer), so it's been tremendous to read about your exploits :) Looks like you had a great time and as said earlier; don't be sad because there will be more trips to come!

Thanks for sharing. Great commentary and photos. The eastern parts of your trip were particularly interesting. Leaves me pining for the fjords.

Cool report, thanks for taking the time to post. A few questions if I may?

What would you do differently next time?
    and
    what's next? :)

    Great RR!!

That's the longest I've ever seen a KTM go without breaking down.

Wonderful road report. Love the picture on the old mail road with the rain being illuminated in the KTM's headlight.

In my younger days I would just quit a job and go on tour...I know precisely that feeling you describe about returning home. Things always worked out for me....here's to your future successes!

    Thanks :)

If I were to do the same trip again I'd probably have spent a little longer wild camping in Finland. But that's really about it.

Next will probably be Iceland for a holiday, but I've a proper bike expedition planned to somewhere rather remote that I hope to share with you next year.

    Thanks for reading and commenting.

This 990 has been on three big trips (London -> Uzbekistan, all of Scotland, London -> Murmansk -> London) plus was a commuter for a while and has yet to let me down. 64000km of troublefree riding!

Fine RR, great pix, but: how much of the above clothing did you actually USE?
You lads need to take my "Packing Lite" course the next time I give it at a Horizons Unlimited meet... all my clothes other than trainers in a 15 L compression drybag, and the most important travel item of all -- besides the motorcycle -- a packable clothesline. Since I carry only synthetic gear, it dries overnight, and if i have to wear it wet next day (never have, but i live in a dry climate here in Colorado and the Southwest), it's still warm.

will be riding your route next summer with one of your countrymen, so thanks, and thanks especially for the great little videos.

Seeing the thread pop up again made me wonder "Where IS Gibson, these days?" Hope all's well with you. If you go on any autumn rides, post up, please. It would be nice to get to read another Gibson report.

Hi Z, well I certainly wouldn't have taken any less. Every item got used, with enough grace to require only a few washes along the way. I hope to meet you at an HU event - UK in summer 2014?
