Would these fit the 1290 SAR as well? I seem to recall reading that the fairing on the 1290 is wider...

So for those with upper bars installed have you dropped the bike in such a way as to actually make use of them? I’ve read a few posts where folks say they aren’t sure that the uppers add much protection. I’m debating buying a set for my new (to me) 1290 T.

Your handlebar will reach the before the crashbar. Go with the HDB system and be manly

    I’d say it’s a waste of money.

Bought 1090 R and it had TT installed.
Same story with long bolts, which scratched the tank.
    Bought replacement shorter bolts. Solved.

When I installed mine I cut the bolts down so they went through the nut but not any further then i cut some leather patches out of an old belt and put that between the nut and the tank so that even in a crash the nut won't hurt the tank. I like my bars for what i bought them for to hang my Clearwaters on and for travel bags. When the bike goes over it only touches the bottom of the bars.

My 1090r has been down many times without any upper crash bars. Lower crash bars and quality hand guards are all you need. These are a waste of money.

I just chucked a set imported from germany on my 1190, shit mounting. I cut the bolts down but very surpised for the cost.
Given the fact that I just replaced two scratched fenders, i woul concour they would save em being scratched so not really a waste of money.

Just more unnecessary weight to an already heavy bike. I've dropped my 1090R a couple of times and the stock lowers and my hand guards did their job. YMMV
