Had my fourth track day Sunday the 12th at Motorsports Ranch, Cresson, TX.

After a rough start: just about dropped the bike due to the kick stand folding up... and yanked the shoulder pretty hard. Then the battery fritzed out and I had to scramble to borrow and hook up a spare.

But, the new leathers were great, the new ramp was easy to use and stable, the weather was great, pegs were dragging, and chicken strips were shrunken (but not shredded).

Things "clicked" for me I took a pretty big jump forward and my pace picked up significantly without things getting nervy or stressed.

Looking forward to the next one.

It's a sickness.... I just dropped >2K upgrading the suspension on a bike that cost me 4K. I picked up a MT-03 in May, I hated the suspension after the first day on the track. It was way to stiff, had no rebound dampin, and felt just down right scary. Just putting an Ohlins on the rear made it feel like it had more horsepower. I was definitely faster this past weekend on it than I have been. I only had to work to catch the 1K bikes, the 600s weren't a challenge at all.

I can't wait to see what the Ohlin cart in the front do for the feel.

Here's an Aprilia that I bought a few years back with the intention of taping up the lights and using as a track bike. Then I bought track bodywork for it before I even picked it up so there went my "budget" trackbike. It was the first non-Ducati I had owned since about 1995 and I didn't bond with it. I ended up selling it last spring, right after spending decent money having the fancy schmancy Ohlins parts rebuilt.

Here's the beat to crap 900ss I bought earlier this summer instead of the nice stock Monster I had been looking for because, you know, track bike.

The Aprilia took longer to prep than I was planning (that's what happens when you end up replacing/painting all the bodywork instead of taping up the lights) and the 900ss turned out to be even more beat up than I thought, so here's the bike that sat in for each when they weren't ready in time.

The 851 has been retired from track use now though, the goal is to have the 900 ready for use before spring and the new season.

I was never particularly talented at it but had a ton of fun. My first TD was on a Sprint 1050. I ran out and bought an '05 R6 just for TDs shortly afterwards. 3 years - 7 different tracks, something like 32 TDs, countless good times. Even picked up a provisional race license at one point but never jumped into the meat grinder. Like many things, wish I had started earlier in life.

All in the rearview now but that's ok. Chapters open and close. Glad I did it, pretty sure I'm glad I moved on. For one thing I'm fairly certain I could not fold myself up to fit on a sportbike today like I could back then, LOL.
