That's why I had a big "requirements document" on the thread I created when looking for riding buddies. I turned away quite a few folks. We've been chatting on a Slack channel also so any questions or concerns folks have could be addressed. Hopefully this will help and we'll all be smooth sailing. I'm sure there will be a few tense moments when things get tough but we'll get through it....I hope!

It might be a plus that they don't know each other. Time will tell. I mostly ride alone or follow, because I know I'm not good in the lead. And when I follow, I don't complain, period. IN.

Sam Correro is the creator of the Trans America Trail and has the best and most authoritative information on the ride. He sells the GPS tracks for a very small fee and will sell you a large collection of detailed maps for the entire TAT route. His web site is here:

I bet you all have a great time, I did the Nevada BDR with a group of a couple of friends and a group of strangers and we all had a great time. Although, that was only 6 days!

I’ve received confirmation that my bike and gear have arrived in NC. I fly in Sunday. Pick it up and head to the coast on Monday. Meeting 2 of the squad there and then Tuesday we start the TAT, meeting the rest in Tellico Plains, TN 5 days later.

I fly into Raleigh, NC on Sunday. I pickup my gear and bike on Monday and ride out to Morehead City, NC which is on the Atlantic ocean. I'll meet 2 of the team there and we will start riding on Tuesday. Then we will pickup the rest of the inmates in Tellico Plains, TN in 5 days or so. From there 4 of us go all the way to Port Orford, OR. One is only riding to OK and the other to CO. Once I get to the end of the TAT it's just a 1 day ride home.

Well, the start of our trip looks to have some terrible weather.

Stays the same to Tellico Plains. Could make for some terrible trail conditions! But that's adventure!

I live in Raleigh, I've never seen a weather forecast come true that is more than 4 days away. Weather is fairly unpredictable east side of the Appalachians. YMMV

Pretty much everything up until Mississippi is reasonably well groomed forest roads and I wouldn't expect much difficultly from it being wet. Mississippi is a whole nuther thing - red clay turns to mud that can be as slippery as eel snot and there are several places prone to flooding. Just take it easy and be prepared to route around flooded areas.
