I'm not only going to destroy my bike on trails where a 350 is a much better idea, but I also intend to see the worst motels, fibreglass chickens and most classless trinkets I can.

    Anyone riding August.
I am trying to hit a little of the East TAT (bc of work schedule); it would be about 6-7 days only.
Anyone leaving in first weeks of August? I ride a DRZ-400S.

No not at all. We plan on riding a steady pace, starting early and probably take a break in the middle of the day if it is hot. I suppose about 8 hours in the saddle but this could vary depending on fuel stop locations, difficulty of terrain etc.

    Here's a question...

...if I want to be in Denver on the 28/29th then when should I leave from Jellico?

I want to do about the same as you and I have given myself roughly 8-10 days of riding. Not a race pace but always moving. With a day or 2 for the unexpected.

From the start of the TAT in Andrews NC to Trinidad CO on the TAT and then up to Denver I'd give yourself 8 - 10 days depending on how hard and long you ride and if you're determined to ride every inch of the track. It can be done a few days faster if you have a flexible attitude about the route.

I presume you're referring to My Lady Wife and I?
Or is there another Scottish couple riding the TAT this summer?

Jenny Dakar did it some of the TAT (and a lot of other stuff too) on a Rally Raid version of the CB500X last year. There's a ride report here:

    Oh Hai Drumbrakes!

Yeah; I was referring to you guys! I read your whole prep thread and feel wholly inadequate in comparison!

Yeah, I know I worry too much and try to plan my way out of things that will never happen...

Just getting on your bike and taking each day as it comes is probably much more relaxing.

That's what my other half keeps saying. I think there is a nerdy thing in men that just want to stress about this stuff. All the experienced 'adventurers' tell us that the joy is in the problems, but not knowing where to draw the line between preparedness and 'going with the flow' is difficult.

We're lucky that our trip is through the 'states so we shouldn't worry too much. A credit card and a couple of days can solve any problem there!

That is what I say. I have the bike, gear, the route w/GPS, cell phone and the time. If things don't work out then I can say I failed, but I tried.

Failed? Nawww, you just put off finishing it for awhile.

It's like if I start at N.C. and ride to Ok, then turn south to home to change tires, then back up to where I left off at... Did I ride the full TAT?
All I am doing is taking a longer ride to get the tires changed.

I have about 3 to 4 weeks to explore on the way. maybe we can ride a few days together. Planning on driving my pickup with drz400 in back to Boise city and parking it. I did to oklahoma in 2013.

Thanks for the note. We are leaving Nashville of July 2 so we expect to be completed around the end of July depending on side trips etc. Therefore it would unfortunately preclude riding with you considering your schedule. Next time maybe.
