Looks a bit funny! I guess they have a server problem.
You'd be dead right. I've been playing Whack-A-Mole with hackers for the last 2 days attacking another website on that server.
Finally got it under control and realised I've stuffed up something on Taut in the process.
Might be tomorrow before I get it worked out.
Sorry bout dat.
Hackers should be shot!
Well that's probably a little extreme Kym...
But about midnight last night I would have gladly strung them up by the left testicle for an extended period of time.
Cheers me up just thinking about it.
I didn't specify where they should be shot
Thanks for the info
Hackers should be hacked!
Ok, return to normal (lack of) service...
Site's back up and working, I think. PM me if not.
In my haste to lock things down for the other site I didn't consider how it would affect others, my bad.
Thanks Peter. Have you noticed that the blank bits of the map are starting to fill up?
Thanks mate . Good work
I got a message today from a member here who was quite upset about a route of mine that he downloaded from your webtrax site.
He claims that its dangerous and the track should have a warning or be removed as he could have been seriously hurt.
These routes I did probably 10 years ago in my infancy with GPS and frankly they are rubbish.
My problem is that they were taken from another site without my permission, and uploaded to your site.
I couldnt care less about that but I do object to having my name associated with it.
I would like all the tracks with my name on them removed as for starters they are ancient rubbish and mostly experiments and secondly, I dont want people hassling me about dangerous tracks as if Im responsible for something someone stole from me and put on their site for everyone to use.
Please remove the tracks associated with my user name.
Thats very disapointing mate, the tracks on there should be used as viewers discretion and if to dangerous the guy should turn around and use his head instead of mouth. If people carry on like that then it will go back to secret tracks that don't get shared and we all will all buy road bikes. I think you did the right thing and good on you for posting them in the first place. Cheers Baz - oops just read they were used from another site-what site is that so I can get more tracks to use?
They were some really old tracks I shared on Offroadexplorer.com in about 2009.
They were obviously taken from there.
It really is a bummer when you get messages like that, like its my fault :-(
I'm a member there aswell. Can't help stupidity mate you get it all the time. I used to post rides on here and suggested what size bike suited then they whinge that I was bike prejudice then you say all welcome and arses whinge to dificult for them and there bike lol let it go over head and have a great day.
The trails with your name against them seem to have been posted up by Peter - a bit odd
If they are the ones in question, you only have to look at the terrain on the map (and the area in general) to see that they are probably going to involve some steep country
Sounds like the bloke hassling you could be a bit of a nutcase really - did he try and take a 1200GS in there?
I'm interested to hear the reply to this.
I wouldnt know, I cant remember ever using the site...
Each trail notes who the owner is and who posted it up on the site - part of the description
For pretty much all of the other trails, the two names are the same
For yours, the poster was 'Peter' - which I assume is Peter WT
It would have been me who put the tracks up there. As it was the early days of Taut, I was putting a number of tracks up for other people. I certainly didn't grab them from the offroadexplorer site, but can't remember who gave them to me. Possibly RosscoACT, and he's not around, so I'll blame him.
I did a search for your 'name' and found 4 tracks:
Tracks (4 found)
Searched: Description contains 'coolbanana'.
Howes Trail, Yango, Wollombi, St Albans
MtIrvine, Beecroft, BlackFellas Hand, Newnes
St Albans, Broad Arm Track, Boree, Yango, Laguna
Wisemans Ferry, Colo Heights, Bilpin, Bells Line, loop.
Does that cover the one that was complained about, and is it likely to be all of yours.
Most of them have this comment in them:
"Uploaded on behalf of 1CoolBanana, Ask for any further details."
and the level has been set to different values on each one, eg
"Level: 3 Moderate"
so I would have assumed I got some input from you about them, as I had no idea how hard or easy they were.
Anyway, not really relevant. If you don't want them there, I will remove them later today.
Re whether we should be censoring/validating tracks in some way, I think it would be a bad direction to head. Even if someone loaded up a track that they recently rode and it was perfectly fine, there could have had a landslide the day after, making it very dangerous.
Maybe I should put a big legalistic disclaimer on the site, but my understanding is that they aren't worth the paper they are not written on.
But possibly a clear statement about the use of the tracks being the rider's responsibility is needed.
I would have thought this self-evident Peter, but perhaps it's not a bad idea
Maybe just explain that assessments as to difficulty vary amongst individuals, and that track conditions can change
