This sounds like a really cool ride!

For those of you who rode it last year, would I be crazy to do it on my BMW R1150GS wearing Shinko 705's?

I know there will be plenty of sand... my only concern is how much of it is THICK/loose sand. The big GS tends to wallow a good bit in the thick stuff and can be a handful. The occasional soft patch would be fine (and expected), but I don't think I'd want to do miles and miles of it on this bike. I know a lot has to do with personal experience & ability. As for mine, I'm 49 - in decent shape (knock wood), grew up riding dirt bikes - mainly in woods - (still have a KTM 400 XCW), have ridden enduro (in Sumter, SC - TONS of sand) & MX. I'm no stranger to sand here in central SC. Just looking for an idea of how much thick stuff to expect on this ride.

    Thanks!

EDIT: Is this video from last year's C-FL ride - or X-FL ride? definitely some pretty thick sand in there at around the 4:12 point.

Enjoyed the Polar Bear this year, might need to convince a few of my Savannah GS brethren to join me on this one.

There were multiple go arounds for those that didn't want to hit the nastier stuff.
The CADS folks had a picture game included and that particular sandy section was one of the optional tags.
And just FYI, some of us hit that section this past weekend on the PBR.....its way worse now!

I went through that section and it took me FOR-EVER!! I'll bypass it this time if it's still in there. Wasn't that about the worst part of the whole ride? It stands out in my mind and I can't think of other bad parts.

Are these going to be standard roll charts, meaning we can use any motorcycle roll chart holder?

    Thx
