So we rolled along the coast under the moon we made the left down the road leading to the ferry there were trucks parked along the road the ferry was in dock. Everything was closed. There was no crossing until morning. It's was almost 11 and we weren't going looking for a room so we had to go find a place to camp. What better place than on the beach the ferry left from. I didn't want to camp in the parking lot it could have been dangerous possible could be backed over by at truck in the middle of the night. Bearded one took a ride around and found nothing. There was an old komatsu excavator pc400lc5 parked on the beach. The tracks and bucket was rusted this thing wasn't moving so we set up right next to it. So we set up on the beach. We were tired from a long days ride. So as soon as we set up we turned in .
I was awakened by the sounds of trucks backing up and ocean waves crashing just a few feet away. Fear that they were loading the ferry I jumped up got dressed and ran up to the ferry terminal. The ladies there informed me it was pretty well book and standby was first come first serve.. I rounded up the guys and we waited and to score the tickets. So we were instructed to get in line. We quickly packed and got on line just behind our new friends Jerry the savior and his friends.

Our new friends. I would spend the ferry crossing chatting with these guys trying not to get seasick

I've long wanted to travel on this route. I try to read every story about it I can find. I wonder also what happened and if they ever went back.

Too late. There might be a bit of gravel left between HVGB & Red Bay, and definitely on 389 in Quebec, but the vast majority of the TLH is paved. Side roads like Esker, Orma Lake, and Cartwright remain unpaved.

Be careful. The remoteness is addicting to some.

I kept a journal of the event and still have a lot of pics. In the name of finishing one project before I start another, I can finish this tale!
