Safe travels Rudy. Being with family hits home with me for sure. I lost my father in March, both my aunts, a good friend and my Shepherd this year. Been really rough. I was just in York beach Maine a couple weeks ago. My Sister and her husband arranged a burial at sea for all including my Grand parents. Father and Grand father got Honor Guard dockside before boat departed. A truly amazing and beautiful day with closure for all. Sorry for the hijack. Just all this wonderful talk about parents and loved ones made me open up. Wish you all the best! Eric

The 3 little ones in the barn are: DRZ (440) for dirt roads and f.s.r roads, wr250r ( Baja) ttr230 ( well trails). Used to have a dr650. Did Alaska and 4 Mexico trips with it. Thinking might wrap another dr in Xmas paper and sneak it into the garage. Anyway small bikes are the most fun. I am enjoying the ride along. Keep the photos coming. O, do note where I live. Baja be very long way from here. Take Care Petepilot

    Eric,

So sorry to hear about your loss...

2020 is turning out to be a really bad year in more ways than one, specially the family aspect. All we can do is cherish the ones we love; all day, every day...

You and Steph stay safe my friend...

    Thanks for checking in Sam.

All is well, I left on Tuesday and I’m currently camping in Lake El Reno RV Park, OK... beautiful setting out here. That’s the bad thing about no WiFi... and the usual go-to hotspots like McD’s is non existent... I’m strictly iPhoning it...

I can scratch “Standin’ on the Corner” in Winslow, AZ... off the bucket list...

    IMG_1077.jpeg

I’ll be meandering my way to Bossier City, LA tomorrow...

I’ll post the RR once I get to Kissimmee...

~ POD: Ride the Pines to Palm Hwy, see some ancient desert figures, ride on London Bridge, go see some donkeys, and get nostalgic...

While I love to get out on adventures, it's always bittersweet leaving home and being away from the family. My last sight leaving home is always Mrs. B8 closing the garage door as I pull away knowing that I'll be gone from a couple of days to a few months…

gloomy morning headed east... I was testing out the manual setting on the GoPro for a sense of movement...

I've always heard of Lake Havasu but never been so I thought I'd check it out.

Lake Havasu is home to the actual London Bridge... wait what???

Basically in the early 60s, the British discovered the 130 year old bridge was sinking into the Thames River due to modern day traffic (where we got the old nursery rhyme "London Bridge is falling down...") So in steps Richard P McCaullough, industrialist and founder of Lake Havasu, purchased the old bridge and had it moved brick-by-brick to Lake Havasu to promote his new community.

~ nos·tal·gia: a sentimental longing or wistful affection for the past…

I grew up watching old classic movies in Long Island, NY like; “The Road…” movies with Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, Abbott and Costello , and the like when times were much simpler… During that era, American GIs were just getting back from the War and took out their pent-up manly urges on theirs wives and girlfriends thus helping to create the “baby boom” from 1946 to about 1964. At the height of the baby boom, a child was born every 7 seconds or just over 4 million per year… Everything was booming at that time; babies, manufacturing, jobs, and housing developments just to keep up with demand. In fact, when I first met Mrs. B8, she lived in the next town over in the post-war community called Levittown, NY… The American Dream was born where everyone sought; a job, a house in the suburbs, 2.5 kids, and a car. Americans became more mobile and exercised their new found freedom during the car culture of the 50s. To help feed this car phenomenon; service stations, drive ins, eateries, mom and pop motels were built along motorways. This leads me to Historic Route-66; a journey in nostalgia…

I didn't want to deal with LA traffic riding Route-66 from Santa Monica so I went to the start of the AZ portion headed to Oatman...

I'm a bit of a history buff and love seeing old gas stations, run down buildings... come to think of it, most adventure riders are intrigued by them as well taking photos of the same. These old remnants must hold tons of secrets and you'd never know it unless you talk to some locals or do a little bit of googling...

there are memorials strewn all over Sitgreaves Pass...

coming down Sitgreaves Pass will lead you to Kingman... funny story; the wife and I came through here in 1989 and stayed overnight on our way to LAX for a flight out to
Hawaii. I asked the wife what she wanted to eat and her reply was "Chinese food..." :scratch :loco not southwestern cuisine, or steak, or something, but Chinese food... needless to say back then it was NOT what we were used to coming from the east coast. To this day every time we pass through Kingman, AZ I ask Mrs. B8 if she wants Chinese food...

Thanks Jim... you're right about the asses, while waiting to take that photo, a truck was turning in that corner and they did not move at all... the truck had to maneuver around them... I guess they're used to traffic as permanent residents of Oatman...
