There were a lot of "don't cross when flooded" signs I passed along the way. I wouldn't want to be caught out on those flats if the lightning was heavy either.

Except the lightning. With you on that one.

It did pretty well. I’ve only really tooled around back there on dirt bikes so it’s a different ride but still fun. A nice close loop since I’m just on the other side of the mtns.

Did the Cow Palace ever reopen after the flooding?

No, and I don't believe there are any plans to reopen. The Longhorn is now open, including for breakfast. No movement on Gadsdens, although they are putting coffee out every morning with a donation jar, so you can still hang out under the trees.

Let me know next time you ride there, I love riding there. Love the very short single rack at the end of GCR up to the ridge.

That’s a bummer about the Cow Palace. They were really great hosts for the There Will Be Dust dual sport. Food and hospitality was always top notch. Cool the longhorn is open, I love that building!

There Will Be Dust has pretty much permanently moved to Patagonia. More facilities and the town has really opened their arms to us.

Friedom, going to make an attempt on Total Wreck mine again if you are interested. Going in at I-10 and 83. Park right there at the exit and head down the gas line. Going to be hot so headed out at 6:30 this Saturday morning. Should be back before 10AM or so.

There are several gates off of Charolais rd, some are locked. This first one has always been open for me. Have to follow the old trail east for a bit then it connects up to the gasline rd.
    Sadly I can't make Saturday.

Mid level...definitely not a butt pucker, but also not a walk in the park. The gas line is actually quite fun because if you are up to it it has some little jumps. I am not planning on doing race pace or anything. Just want to get out to the mine and take some photos. It has been 6-7 years since I have been out there.

PS: it is about a 25 mile round trip all dirt.

How does it compare to, say, forest service road 143(bull spring road) to Alto, AZ? I've ridden that one, slow, but made it.

I'm a newbie, but if you don't mind a big guy slowly following you, I'd like to join. Can a g310 make it or do I need more of a dirt bike?

Are you still planning on going off of the freeway or off of 83 and charolais road?

Depending on your route, there are some scrambly hill climbs and descents.

    The jumps are funnnnn.

All are welcome. A few weeks back I did Charouleau Gap
(much more than Total Wreck), had a rider show up on a KLR 650. In my mind I was saying "No way". He not only made it up, he did it at decent pace on dual sport tires. It isn't the bike, it is the rider and ya can't learn unless you try. Ya can't be stressed though if you drop it...it's going to get scared if you ride off-road. I am going in off 83 as I laid out a route on Google Earth and it gives me a good place to park my vehicle.

There is a dirt parking lot right off I-10/83 exit SW side. I am going to park there. I plan to be there at 6:30am and am riding a WR450f.
