Hey guys, I have been lurking on this site for years on and off but only recently picked up a DS bike. I ride my 300 XC-W regularly on the roughest stuff I can find. I recently pickup up a new KLR650 and have been having a ton of fun on it. My 7 year old daughter has taken to it pretty well also. Anyhow, I plan to take her on her 1st proper "dual sport" ride this Sunday. We are going to head out through Redington Pass to Cascabel, then north along the east side of the San Pedro up to Mammoth for lunch. After lunch we will head north up River Rd to Freeman and west to Willow Springs, then south back to the highway and home.

This will be an easy ride, mild 2 tracks at the worst but a mellow pace. If anyone is interested in joining us please let me know. Probably plan to meet at Circle K on Tanque Verde at about 8:30am.

I think I may be heading out for a ride this Saturday if anyone wants to join. North to the Picacho Mountains and around the west side up to Picacho Reservior. Lunch in Florence and probably back through Willow Springs. A lot of 2 track roads and graded dirt roads. Some of the route will be a little rocky but not too bad. A little bit of offroad experience would be good. Mellow pace.

I'll be on my KLR650. If there is any interest I will post up some more details.

Ride Name: Sierrita Mountains Ride - East to West
    Date:
    Tuesday Feb 9, 2016
    Meeting time: 9 am
Meeting location: McDonald's at Valencia/I-19 or McDoanld's at Sauharita Rd/I-19, depending who is joining the ride.
Estimated Length of Ride: 6-7 hours
Difficulty: Easy - stock DS bike OK
Notes: (ex: General route, big bike friendly; noob friendly; fast paced...) We usually do this ride From Green Valley and enter State Land at McGee Ranch Road, but I'm looking at ways of getting across the Sierritas from Pima Mine Road. There are several trails shown on my maps but whenever I've tried it many are gated and some are on Private land with Access Closed. This is more of an exploratory ride rather than my usual "guided ride" on trails I'm familiar with.

I'll be on a stock DR650SE and won't be attempting any extreme sections.

Post or PM to arrange place/time to meet.

    Bob

Any good local rides from the DM area? I'm headed out there next week and bringing the f800 with me.

How's the ride up to Mt. Lemmon?

You'll love it. A little cold on top, though. Plenty of snow around, but the roads should be clear.

I drove up Mt Lemmon yesterday, 3/4 of the way up. Definitely is a lot of snow still, but roads are clear. It did say 4wd required beyond that point but I saw no hint of wet roads up to Bigelow.

I saw the 'back side" approach to control road from the bottom about a week ago.

the gate is locked, can not get past from the 5 mile marker.

BTW, Greetings! I was pointed here by Bob... Thank You, Bob.

I've often wondered if it could be done on two wheels - ie going around closed gates. Haven't tried though. Probably some snow back there still, being the north face.

I drove the truck up the front to Summerhaven yesterday and there wasn't much snow near the top - the ski hill was closed. Checked out the Control Road entrance (locked) and there was some ice patches but it was mostly clear. Obviously it is meant to be CLOSED but I was chatting in the Cookie Cabin and a "local" said you can ride around the gates. Not sure how "Road Closed" infractions apply in AZ but back home in Ontario it's 3 Demerit Points on your Driver Licence (and an increase in your Insurance).

Weather looks good for the Arivaca Outback this weekend - see you there!

Going up to Reddington for a night ride. 3 feathers, Italian trap, chimney rock, something like that. New LED lights need testing. Last stop circle K by 6:30, but let me know if anyone is in or I might not stop there at all.
