    Ok, so I'm probably certifiable.

Stromwife nuked my request for a 2008 KLR so...
I've sold away all my bikes but my Super Sherpa. I have a few weeks between mid December and mid January until class starts again.
I have a new grandson (my first) in Fort Walton Beach that I'd like to meet. I have a crazy desire to ride the Sherpa to Florida and back in December.
I figure I'll take back roads most of the way and a week or so to travel in each direction.

Can the assembled masses tell me if I'm nuts and that I should just buy a plane ticket?

I think the alternator might support an electric vest or grip heaters but not both.

Has anyone taken the southern route (via San Antonio, Houston etc) that time of year what should I expect as far as weather?

I've seen snow in El Paso before. You just have to check the WX before you go. Could be CWT the whole way. Get a heated vest if you don't already have one.
