The Jim Thorpe ADVRiders met at Matto Cycle in Saint Clair, PA, to seek out new trails and connect up some stuff from last week. Best laid plans of mice and men, it's good to be flexible and God helps those who help themselves. The great thing about Adventure riding, is you never know what you'll run into, or through. Today we would boldly go into the unknown on more than one occasion. Let's get started. Uncle Robert was meeting a friend who was coming in to Matto's to test drive a 950 Adventure. JT Dave was delayed, so Moto Mike and I tagged along on the test ride. Moto Mike on the left, demo 950 on the right. Uncle Robert 950. Black is beautiful!
You don't have to go far from Matto's to have loads of fun. Here's some great shots of "Big Air" Moto Mike showing off for the camera.
This wasn't exactly a dead end, but I didn't think we'd be getting back up this hill if it didn't come out somewhere. There was no disagreement among the group to turn around. Going down. Going back up.
If you saw last week's thread, this is the hill where we called it a day in Shenandoah. I made it part way up and got stuck, so I pulled out the camera. Here comes Uncle Robert. There goes Moto Mike. He was the only one to make it. JT Dave was busy.
Play area time. Moto Mike is the hill climb KING!! The brothers S. Moto Mike closeup. Nightstalker, I really need to get on that diet plan! Maybe not, if I go any faster I might hurt myself.
On the way to Delano. Can you hear me now? Waiting for MSMetz. He had just finished his "Mortal Kombat" karate class. Don't fuck with him or he'll kick your ass!
Mike's narcoleptic bike. So, we were riding this old abandoned rail line trail. When we came upon this tunnel! OH BOY HOW COOL! But, it was full of water! Oh the drama! We had no idea how deep the water would be, there was only one way to find out!
We stopped in McAdoo for some munchies and beverages. MSMetz took off and left us with 4. We headed to find this trail that I always pass going up I-81. We eventually found the trail. However, it would be another hill that kicked my ass. It was not to be, or was it???? Looking up the hill. Looking down, those bastards had to be laughing at my silly idea of even attempting this nasty hill.
We took the long way around the mountain and rode the trail from the other end. It really wasn't much better. We lost Uncle Robert enroute as it had started raining and he wanted to head out. Moto Mike cresting the top. I-81. It's a 200 foot deep cut in the mountain for the highway. Moto Mike took these pictures while hanging over the side of the cliff. I didn't have the balls to do it!
JT Dave didn't make it up on the bike, so he hoofed it up by foot. Time to get that Dunlop 908RR on the rear of that 950! Dave took some shots of Mike and I coming back down the hill. He got a great Moto Mike action sequence.
It was raining pretty hard now and it was getting late, so we called it a day and headed home. One final shot, big smiles!
