Bring the plated bike, you need it to ride Forest Service roads.

Just got done riding in the area.

I rode the dirt route from organ pipe to Ajo and from Ajo to Yuma on a KTM 350 with camping gear over a 2 day period.

Other than deep long sections of sugar sand, and few muddy spots ( it rained and had lots of morning dew)

There were no other technical sections IMHO

That said, I personally would not want to ride this area on anything bigger than a 690/701.

If your good for long stretches of deep 4-10+ tracked sections of sugar sand go for it.

Your never really alone on this section as US border patrol and other federal agencies have lots rangers in the area if you get in trouble.

Seemed like I saw a ranger of some sort about once every 3-4 hours day or night.

    Hope that helps.

Looks like some good advice Scott.

I've been riding woods/MUD/etc for years, not much sand ( and the little bit i have , i'm not that good at it)

looks like i'll try out some day trips with the TXC449, and some over night loops to Zion , Roosevelt Dam etc on the 1200GS.

Scott , any trip /pix report from your trip?

    Hi

Just gave you my trip report of that area.

Not big on stopping to take a lot of pics.

But here are two ...wall pic old and new taken near Organ pipe.

And camp with flat fix ... Flatted about 1am while full moon riding ... Camped where I was fixed flat next morning

    Have a good ride

I'm game for day rides out of Peoria/Phx before then. Saturdays are the best. The next best is Friday afternoons. Was thinking of tackling the back road to Crown King? Did it in my F150 and a Jeep a few times years ago.

Phoenix ADV Inmate here...seeking riders to join and ride anywhere in around greater Phoenix areas. PM me with ride details. The Arizona Adventure Riders seem to be non-existent on the meetup.com site. Keep knobby side down.

Anyone down to get out of L.A. for a day ride? Might even consider overnight camping somewhere.
No shaking hands, hugging or kissing to spread the virus etc., but hey - we live only once - might as well enjoy life while we can! Who's down?

Planning a 2 - 2.5 day trip out of Los Angeles area next weekend. Will head out somewhere north on either Friday or Saturday. Return Sunday night. Would like to camp out somewhere for 2 or 1 nights, respectively.
Thinking about either Lake Isabella, or northwest parts of Los Padres N.F., or Southeast parts of Big Sur area.
Although most "official" campgrounds near Lake Isabella are closed - it's not enforced, and dozens of people are out there - at least day-using (although a few had tents up) - with apparently no rangers harrassing them. Also lake Isabella has beautiful off-highway secluded areas for camping with no signs prohibiting it in any way - been there this weekend, although not actually camping - was a day trip. But would like to go overnight next weekend. Not necessarily to Lake Isabella, that's just one place I'm most recently familiar with.

I wish I could join, but this weekend is Mother's day and I have plans with the family. I should be free the following weekend.

I was tentatively planning a moto camping trip for that general area next week with one of my friends, however her dog is sick and may prevent her from going. Maybe I'll tag along on yours instead.

    Cool, PM-ed you.

Ok, I can post a specific route one it's decided. I've mentioned a couple likely destinations, but exact route is TBA depending on other participants' preferences, want to get it solidified by Friday!
