Oswald's Bear Ranch just north of Newberry. A definite must stop.

Grand Marais is a unique little town. Take H-58 west to Munising and the pictured rocks area. Hit the "log slide" as you go through that area.

Best way to experience pictured rocks is to take one of the boat tours out of Munising.

If you get to Marquette, check out Presque Isle park. Look for the "black rocks" where you can jump off the cliff into Lake Superior.

Whitefish Point, North of Paradise, is cool. If you get close to Manistique, Big Springs ( Kitch-iti-Kipi) is a good stop. Love the loop Guzzi!

Try Lakenen Land it's near Sand River on M-28 just before you get to Marquette. It's FREE, you can ride your bikes or walk through it and it a good place to take a break...

Please send me your ride plan and I'll try to ride one day if work permits as I just got off of a week of vacation. The weather looks great for you guys this week also.

They are going to love the bear ranch, great idea. I was looking at the kayak tours of pictured rocks, put some of that youthful energy to work.

I'd like to check our Lakenen land, hadn't heard of it before.

The loose plan today is whitefish point and tahquamenon falls on Monday, hit the bear ranch then up to grand Marais Tuesday, take a boat tour of pictured rocks and run out to Lakenen Wednesday. I don't think we'll spend any serious time riding. Might leave camp around Munising and ride out to Lakenen.

The "sands plains" area which refers to the myriad of of trails and forest roads which cover the area between the crossroads and Gwinn. Mostly on the west side of 553. The area stretches west to Palmer.

You can access it from just about any of the roads that run west off of 553, or south off of 480. You can also use the snowmobile trail that connects to the Crossroads parking lot.

Lots of sand (duh!), and lots of traffic out there.

Like bob said, the more open area,s can be busy. There is a staging area out there that leads to tons of single track. Some is dual sport friendly and it has area,s past hard enduro. Some of the best riding in the country. Both stickers are needed to ride there.Last weekend the sand stormers had a family and kids enduro out there.

Also,Do not publish any gps maps of it.It is not state trail and part of a land use agreement. If you go on the single track best to have a gps as you can really get lost out there.Ounce you get off the roads the ground is way firmer and there is alot of trails with perfect loamy conditions and heavy rock climbing area,s that are a blast on a trials bike.

I rode there a couple of times actually. I did not know it was a popular place with an actual name. I just stumbled upon it because I was living on 480. I came across some trails well above my experience level.
I am back living in Houghton now. It would be fun to go back and ride there as well as do Bass lake, but my plan is to go on a 2-week ride starting around August 14th.
