Went down to Door county today with wife and road all day with friends. It was a brutal day.I went up a 15 foot granite face and caught a out cropping with right peg.Tore left gork gaurd off fork, ripped open left dust seal, broke helmet, ripped open my radiator and killed cooling fan.My good friend had a loaner bike for me to finish day off anyway. Hi everyone,
I’m interested if anyone wants to start a weekly or bi weekly ride around Marquette area. I’m a newbie so you’ll have to have some patience with me while I learn.

Greetings! my name is Matt and I just got stationed in Cheboygan on the mighty Mackinaw. My pops loves riding and has telling me about it for years, now I would love to start riding to give us a opportunity to spend time and together and explore around Michigan on. Been hunting around for a couple moths for a WR250R. I would greatly appreciate any wisdom on first time bike buying or any leads on a WR250R . It would really help me out. thanks for your time and I look forward to chatting/riding in the future!

Hi Matt, I am off the Wolverine exit of I75, I ride an Africa Twin. If you are experienced then the WR is probably fine, but if you are new to this I would suggest Honda's CRF250L. This one is lower and easier to handle, in my opinion. Stay in touch!

So..... for all of the folks in the Marquette area, we have been meeting up and riding on Tuesday evenings. These rides are moderate paced, medium difficulty, and definitely "join at your own risk".

You can private message me for contact details. Please note that these are not any sort of officially sanctioned rides.

It would be nice to also maybe have a few longer day rides on the weekend....or during the week for those with flexible schedules. If anyone wants to put something together, don't hesitate to post something here.

4 bikes from last Tuesday's ride, good pace and no problems. Great ride, keep me posted for the next one or if a weekend ride gets put together. 20200602_183716.jpg 20200602_221948.jpg

I wonder what that rider in the black jacket is doing, scouting the next turn or maybe thinking what a wonderful ride it has been.

Wish i could have joined you, but too far away......

Yes, and on several occassions I have seen one pee in to Lake Superior, in an attempt to lure in a big one, and it seems to have worked! Good luck up there!

Had another good Tuesday evening ride. Encountered a few downed trees and had to spend a bit of time tracking down a cell phone that was ejected from a tailbag that someone forgot to zip back up after a break.

It was a bit dusty, but not for the guy who got to lead! :pynd

Had to move our Tuesday night ride to Wednesday this week due to rain on Tuesday.

Had a good turnout and ride.... but it still was dusty in places even after all of the rain the day before.

For those riding through the Marquette area and looking for camping, there is a newly developed RV / Campground in Chocolay Township near the Casino and NMU Golf Course called the Chocolay River RV & Campgrounds. 10 minutes from Marquette, few minutes from the Casino, and a public access beach to Lake Superior. Owner is motorcycle & ORV friendly and you have trail access right from the campground. Sites have electric, clean water, shower / bathroom building. He is currently renting tent sites for $15.00 a night! Check out their web site.

Well....our weekly Tuesday night ride turned out to be more of an adventure than we wanted for a Tuesday evening.

It all started out innocent enough... don't they all?

We were making great time and were at the point in our loop where we were furthest from home when.... suddenly @DaveJ_U.P.Rider gets a flat tire on the front of his BMW.

No problem, we have all of the tools we need and several spare tubes. 20 minutes later the tire has a new tube and we are pulling out again.

All was well for at least 100 feet when... what the heck!?! It's flat again.

So....pull everything back apart, swat at the ever increasing clouds of mosquitoes, and put in a second new tube.

Pump....pump....pump....pump some more! This thing is not holding any air. Pull everything apart again and the new tube also has a hole! What is going on?

Inspect the tire and rim the best we can while swatting at the ever increasing mosquito population.

Can't find anything, so we pull out our 3rd and final tube. Same story...swat, spoon, swat, spoon, swat, pump, pump, pump.

Hmm... seems to be holding air. Put it on the bike, pack up tools, and away we..... WHAT????? It's flat AGAIN?!?

At this point it's getting late and dark, and @nukpharm has to get to work. We consider just leaving @DaveJ_U.P.Rider to his fate, but he's a decent sort of fellow, so we decide to push his bike into the woods and ride two up back to civilization.

Thankfully, we were less than 5 miles from pavement, but close to 50 miles from home. And....it's now 10:30 at night and dark.

Once we hit pavement, @nukpharm headed out and Dave was finally able to get a cell signal and call a friend for a truck rescue.

Dave and I rode two up on my 640 for 20+ miles to the meetup point. The booming metropolis of Arnold. Look it up some time...it's really something.

Anyway, Dave's buddy finally shows up with a truck and ramp about 11:30 at night. They go off to rescue the abandoned BMW while I hit the road home.

    To be continued...
