The famous Numb Bum 24 hour race was held on Feb14th at Sandy Beach near Edmonton. Unfortunately the race was cut short by a fatal crash. Veteran ice racer Troy Ritchie died shortly after being transported to hospital by helicopter, RIP Troy.
A fund has been set up for his family, donations can be made at http://www.gofundme.com/RitchieFamily

Yes please everyone use whatever safety devices you have available to you these toys can be dangerous. And everyone get those tethers hooked up and working they can be lifesavers. And watch out these bites can bite when you fall off.

Well that time is soon upon us, so for the last few weekends I have been getting my ice bike prepared at Langs offroad. We treated the bike to a shorter stance of approx 2", replaced the swing arm and linkage bearings, the head bearings also got a fresh treatment of grease. Valves have been checked, good thing as the internal oiling tube was broken in half, carb was removed and cleaned in the ultra sonic cleaner. Broken plastics replaced, and now looking at requirements to possibly put estart on the bike, and looking at manufacturing a chain guard for the ice as well.

While I was there it was brought up about bikes on the track not having safety cords. Please if you are building or planning to build an ice bike, throw a $20 tether cord on your handlebars. There are a few styles out there but one that I will recommend will fit just about any bike.

Operation 500exc ice bike begins, as a rookie to ice, I'm looking for advice about what I need: Studded tires: check. Muffs for hands: check I don't see too many bikes with guards on here, I'm just messing around but I like the idea of not slicing and dicing my buddies...

    Any input? Thanks.

I run a front guard. A tether is a MUST. some tracks you need wheel guards to ride some you don't but all should make tether mandatory.

Where did you get tires from?
