Had an amazing meal in one of the townships. The townships are the tin house neighborhoods.... kids playing soccer in the road when traffic breaks, ports potties scattered around the edges, paths like a maze that runs through this high density housing area, laundry hanging from fences and lining the roadway because it is the only open area, and it goes for miles.

The restaurant is run by a family. The mom was a contestant on Africa’s Master Chef. Made top 6. She is a dental hygienist and her husband an engineer. They opened this restaurant in the township the mom grew up in. This family is working on changing this township from the inside out. The sons were cooking and serving the meals this day. We parked on the curb in front of the place. Literally, we were in the hood...

I wish I had the ability to write this in better words or terms, but here goes ...

USBYGS, the pix you two posted of that Township illustrate how most all of us from all over the world here on ADV are so fortunate to live where we do. I can not imagine that most of the people that live in those Townships has the wherewithal to be on ADV or even the internet.
I've long contended that just plain luck has much to do with our situation in life. Luck is certainly not the only thing that accounts for our situation in life but some people might consider how lucky they are not to have been, for example, born a poor female in someplace like a little village in Afghanistan, Pakistan or a poor black female in some little village in Africa in the first place.

I can say that EVERYONE we have talked to is very friendly and happy. We always ask about that and they always respond that Africans are always generally happy. We find this on the street, in the stores, pretty much wherever we are. Hope is another question we ask. Do you have hope for the future. More yes than no but definitely mixed. Political and economic not so good but the realization that everyday people must step in to make the change. I can honestly say we really love the people here and our candid conversations have been priceless.
