Well ya, it`s 153 days away. We have the El Trial, 6 Nationals, 7 local trials, 10 vintage, East and West Youth Nationals and a few fun events before we start thinking of the UTE CUP.

I'm excited to come and hopefully be able to score again if scorers are needed. I work from home and the mini rugs last year's scorers got, with @Yinzer Moto 's finisher pins from 2018 and 2019 attached to it is visible from my desk. Makes me happy when I think about what a cool thing it is to be a part of and how lucky we are to be able to make it out there again this year. As long as Yinzer is fast on the registration!

BREAKING NEWS: The sign-up for 2020 Ute Cup will open on Friday, May 1st (probably around 8:00 am MST). We don't have a firm number for the cap yet, but hopefully we will by then. I'll try to put another reminder here a few days out, but go ahead and mark your calendars.

I'm hearing all sorts of cool rumors about how fun this is going to be! We may be TIRED going to work that next week! :strum :drums

Is camping allowed at the event site? Trying to come up with a plan.

Yes.... very nice alpine meadow. It will be chilly at night. The nearest town (Del-Norte) is an hour-ish.

Chilly doesn’t bother me much. I have a 10° bag.

Embargo Creek is right down the middle; zoom in/out for details and overview.

Colorado OHV stickers are required when riding trails in the area.

This, and only this, despite whatever else it says on the page:

"The OHV Program provides registration and use permit services for all Colorado and out of state residents who wish to access designated OHV trails on Colorado's public lands."

That’s great for those looking to trail ride, but you can’t leave the trails and ride rocks, logs, banks, etc. The closest open areas to free ride would be in Howard at Turkey Rock, correct?

Hit Turkey Rock and Hartman Rocks first for warm up then couple hours south for the event. Camping at Hartman and lots of rooms in Gunnison.

Maybe. We have to figure it out soon. Maybe tonight I’ll try to get solid plans out of Lew and Logan.

Is Hartman rocks an open area that we could ride in? Kinda figuring out a plan now. Might stay between Gunnison and Salida to ride Thursday and Friday then Friday evening make it to Del Norte to stay for the event.

After a bit of digging, I found the prize. The BLM Hartman Rocks Recreation Area Management Plan was updated and approved in 2014, to include, amongst others, a trials riding area. I have extracted the map showing the newly approved area:

The coordinates for the rock crawling area are:
    38.495310 -106.945949

These will work in Google Earth and Caltopo (with Scanned 7.5').
    And GPS units.

The yellow area on the large map is all trials riding.
    Red on the inset map.

    That's all I got.

Reminder: The pre-registration for Ute Cup 2020 opens tomorrow at about 10AM MST. The link will be posted on the Ute Cup page of the RMTA site: http://rockymountaintrials.org/ute-cup/

I don't know of the exact event cap yet, and of course no one can predict what will happen with certainty related to COVID, but we are moving forward as though it's happening!

    Cheers!

Thanks for the reminder! I would have forgotten.

It's looking more likely that more of the population was exposed to SARS CoV-2 earlier and more extensively than was originally assumed, with the death and serious complications rates ending up lower than originally assumed. Covid-19 seem a pockets here and there thing and affecting the very old and less healthy people predominately. Dunno about you all, but I've not fondled gas pump keypads and pump handles then picking the nose for years.

Doc Joe was about to get in his car yesterday to go visit a friend's boy to look as his weird red toes. He had no other symptoms. Doc decided to look up "red toes" and up pops Covid toes! Yikes! We were going to ride Cedro tomorrow and him having to go into 14-day isolation:sick would have sucked the big weenie.

We trials riders are more active and healthy than the average. Some say there could be a fall Covid wave riding on the coat tails of influenza, but that would be AFTER the mid August Ute Cup! SO I could sure see us getting together to do some riding, even if we don't shake hands and kiss:beer And if someone sneezes hard into the open air we can toss 'em off a cliff.
