Oh, and fuck me. Not only did my government ticket take me to Dallas to get to San Diego from Japan (I imagine I flew over San Diego to get to Dallas), but we got into Dallas early and I went through customs and rechecked my bag 2 hours prior to my connecting flight. Bag never made it. American Airlines tells me it will make the next flight out that day and they will deliver to my lodging that night. Knuckleheads call me at midnight to tell me they can’t get on base to deliver the bag. Can I walk the 2 miles to the front gate? Fuck AA. Told those bastards to call me in the morning. Oh, and I don’t have a rental car because the conference is across the street. What a goat rope.

Aye, Navy Lodge at NAS North Island. San Diego is so darn pretty but I have no desire to live in California. Here for a full week of shenanigans and when I get back the movers show up on Monday to start packing my shit up.

I've spent a few weeks in the Sheridan across from the base. Great views. But no way I would want to live there. My wife does though. :shog

Walking to the main gate to retrieve my luggage I crossed the approach end of the runway. I ducked just in case. Conference starts tomorrow so I now have my fancy clothes to wear.

Figured it must be good if there was a Maclarin parked out front.

I’ll need a tech day down the road when those two KLRs get delivered after 4 years in warehouse storage. Proverbial “ran when parked”.

Nothing like a good Reuben. This thing was heavy on the kraut. Made the rest of the day a gassy mess.

Met up with my backfill for a quick turnover brief over dinner. He may look familiar as he was my boss 4 years ago before he retired as an active duty Captain. He is psyched to be coming back to Japan.

Made it to LAX on time. Flight to Tokyo has been delayed twice now. Good news is that we haven’t boarded yet and it appears to be a good stache day.

Puddle jumper from SD to LAX. Is it a California thing? I fly often but I can’t recall seeing so many dogs at the airport before. People with carriers and people walking their pets down the concourse. Don’t get me wrong, I love dogs, but do you need to travel with one?

Dogs, cats, even miniature pigs. I'm completely at a loss for what the airline policies must be. I had a 3 hour flight earlier this week; across the aisle from me there was a little dog that was never in it's carrier. Maybe a service animal but I didn't see any identification of that. Bags need to be stowed but it's okay for an animal to be in someone's lap? I can't help but imagine what the impact would be on an emergency evacuation.

Can we do your welcome home closer to Ann Arbor so I can go? Or I'll host it at our place in Mexico if it's after the first week of January!
