Is this magic possible? I see on some tutorials that you just need to move oil tank to get enough clearance but removal is not necessary.
Tanks off, carbs off (cables can be left on, tie wrap carbs to handlebars out of way, place clean cloth in intakes), airbox off, drain coolant and remove rad (quick to do and keeps it out of harms way, reuse coolant/replace as required. Oil tank is just unbolted and left loose. Unplug and remove stick coils and plugs, cover plug holes. Remove valve covers. Set to tdc on rear cyl with cams in correct position, lock crank (make tool from bolt or threaded rod). Do not remove cams without locking crank first. Take note of dot or cross positions on cam gears (careful - there are two on each cam!). Sort clearances. Repeat for front cyl. Best to have box of shims to hand before starting if you want job done same day.
