You guys would have been fine. There wasn't any snow where I camped. Met two other riders (dude on 1200 GS and one on a weird unidentifiable bike — looked like some sort of scrambler on streets — he's was the one with the motivation). I had a fire that went through the night. Only dipped down to 4º I believe as there was some pretty intense cloud coverage up there. Kept me warm — it was bliss. It's the SAR in me. They teach us all the nifty ways to stay warm and build shelters. Cant wait to get a few more people out!
Your balls are too big for me at the moment ! Have not been on my bike in 18 months (Was stationed in Panama last year) so need to get some easier miles under me before I tackle snow ! Keep asking though. I am going to say yes very soon..............
Some of my favourite "local" rides: - pemberton to gold bridge via Hurley FSR then along carpenter lake - Lillooet to big bar lake up pavilion Clinton FSR or west to big bar ferry - Lytton across cable ferry then northward alongside Fraser river to Lillooet Did a portion of the WABDR last year and I'd highly recommend it to all. What is everyone riding? I'm on a KTM 950 Adventure. M.
Im on a gs 1200 but looking for something a little lighter for the gravel and trails. The Hurley/ Carpenter Lake is a nice ride for sure easy going for large ADV bikes. You may want to try Boston Bar to Lytton Ferry on the west side of the Fraser on your 950 its a bit more challenging than Lytton Ferry to Lillooet part. I did that whole route last fall on the gs. Was a full days ride took the Duffey back it was a 600km day. Hope to discover a few more good local rides this year.
I'm on a VStrom 650, and just got my Class 6 (so, been riding about a year). I'm up to discover easier roads for the time being, I like the sound of the Hurley/Carpenter Lake route.
I am on a 1200GSA. That Hurley Carpenter lake route looks about my speed. Thanks for sharing the videio mroddis / filterwrench, when do you want to lead a tour ?
The Hurley/Carpenter Lake route is probably best done as an overnighter for Vancouver area riders . Once your on the gravel the day seems to fly by. I will be having a late start this season but will post here when ready to ride.
Excellent mate. I am down for an overnight camp. Will keep an eye out for your posting when you are ready to go.
Crap... probably late, and probably not what most of the crew is looking for but.... a cushy ride out to Harrison today. https://www.facebook.com/events/357407864622721/?ti=icl If you can make it, search me out! You can't miss me. Orange Wee-strom and a yellow hi-viz jacket.
My first ADV ride of the season is planned for June 10th so thought I would post it here also. Its a Upper Fraser Valley ADV Riders group ride. So far there is myself and one other member from the group going. Its an overnighter in Lillooet. If its not perfectly dry weather I may have to back track on the first gravel section and take the hwy to Lytton then the cable ferry accross as I will be on my big GS with street tires for this ride other than the first section the rest of the ride is on paved or gravel FSR roads. The Planned Route Thus Far: • Meet up at Harris Rd by Hwy 11 • Ride along the Lougheed Hwy to Hope • Turn onto Hwy 1 heading to Boston Bar • Take Chaumox Rd from BB to Inkitsaph • Take Keepers Rd > South Spencer Rd > North Spencer Rd > Texas Creek Rd > Lillooet • Set up camp/overnight @ Axel's B & B 2211 Texas Creek Rd • Break camp taking Hwy 99 North then South east to Hat Creek Rd • Head South along Hat Creek to Murray Creek FSR • Ride East by South East along Murray Creek FSR to Spences Bridge (Hwy 1) • Follow Hwy 1 South to Nicoamen River FSR > Mowohokan Creek FSR > Hwy 1 • Stop at Boston Bar, return via Hwy 1 There are a few options for skipping the first gravel section with some easier routes then meet up again close to Lilooett. Also its been a long winter and unforseen road conditions could change the route. Its an ADV ride
Sounds like a good route - just be sure to check on the fires up in that area. I understand one is burning just southeast of Lillooet so check before you go. Alternatively you could head north along the Pavillion-Clinton Road to Clinton then swing up to Big Bar Road, head west then down to the Fraser ferry crossing, down West Pavillion to Lillooet. Then you could even head around Carpenter Lake and over Hurley Pass to Pemberton....so many great options. Just one warning, if it rains, then the gravel/clay surfaces become really slick, so take care. (and air down...) M.
Sure is a lot of great roads up near Lillooet. Rain will really limit my options on this ride as im out of the province so will have no time to switch tires on my GS I have 80/20 tires on the bike so if its real wet out I may have to re route and meet up with the group in spots. Going the long way around is not all that painfull on a GS.
Fun ride the GS bikes were a little big for some of the sections but we did not have to back track just a little push in a few spots. Overall it was great 2 days of riding.
Planning my next ADV ride. This one is for experienced riders with large displacment bikes. The route is called the "Moregon" it was put together by seasoned riders years ago it focuses on technical side roads and some are in rough shape these days. Will include The Hells Canyon loop and the John Day Hwy and possibly the back road up to Mt St Helens. July 11th-14th. Route will be fine tuned to best suit the bikes that are paticipating, fuel stops ect.
