I was with Tarmac Traveller on the Tasmanian trip last week. I have asked Paul if he wanted me to post some pics and he said it was ok to do so. The panniers refered to in the first post are on the white GS.

    Guys,
my mate BillyT53 has posted pics on page 5. From sitting on my garage floor through to a few on our sorjourn around Tasmanian.

Billy has actually done a post on the ADV site going throught the step by step process of installation.

Cheers, and thanks for the nice comments, don't you just dislike people that bash you verbally.

Quite honestly I'd contact Vern as on the odd occassion he has a set that may have a small mark on them, and you'll beed to convert it anyway as it will be in English pounds and of course the shipping costs would likely to be cheaper to the US.

All I'll say, given the exchange rate, it was cheaper than buying a set of Jessie's.

    Cheers

With the 10" bags what is the outside width of the bags overall?

I love my panniers! This is the starting point.

The panniers are long. So long that Vern shipped a kit to shorten the indicators. Perfect fit (as everything else!).
However, when the indicators are tucked in, they are not very visible from the side.
In fact, the picture above was taken from where a car driver in the left lane would be, if he was in my dead angle.
He can not see that the indicator is flashing to the left here!
A car in your dead angle that can't see that you plan to turn out in front of him, that is dangerous (please note the text in the last paragraph).

If you look carefully at the picture, you can see the reflections of the yellow indicator on the bottom of the top box.

What he can see, however, are the yellow LEDs I have installed that also flashes. You see them too, I hope.

Another thing you noticed, I hope, is the red LEDs next to the yellow ones.
This country is full of narrow, small, tiny scooters.
I want the driver int he car to notice that this isn't a scooter, and that I really need some space around me.
Motto: Do not pass very close to that single rear light.

While I was at it, I installed a white LED pointing forward.
I want to look larger in their rear mirror, and when I meet them.

All pairs of LEDs are fused, and I now have access to 12V inside the panniers should I need it later.
The LEDs are installed cleanly in the lid, inside the very well made "lip".

Sorry if this makes my GS look like a GoldWing or RoadKing.

LAST PARAGRAPH: If you crave for replying "Never do anything without checking if there is a car in your dead angle", please refrain yourself.

Thanks for posting. Can you tell me the width of the bags on the 12GS next to yours? From the decals they look a little narrower.

Also, do you or anyone know the width of the bags on the silver GS at the beginning of the thread? I think they might be a bit wider than yours and It would be nice to have that 3-width comparison.

    Thanks!

The panniers on SBN77 and TT02 are the exact same width....only the decals are a different width. Each pannier is 10" wide.

HAVEING DONE MORE MILES ON THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES THAN MOST OF THE RIDERS IN THIS FORUM, ( I LIVE IN SOUTH AMERICA :D) I HAVE TO SAY, THIS IS CORRECT, PERHAPS THE BEST FRAME YOU CAN TAKE TO A RTW TRIP IS AN IRON ANGLE PROFILE, BUT HELL IT IS HORRIBLE AND IT IS A DETRIMENT TO BMW AESTHETICS!!!!!...

AND I´M PRETTY SHURE THAT IS THE REASON WHY THEY ARE NOT POPULAR.

Notice how the right pannier has plowed through the gravel.

    Damages: None.
Some scratches, without a dent, do not qualify as damage.

    Tagesk,
nice work on the lights. That is an elegant solution to a real liability.

what do the panniers weigh with the rack?

what is their capacity in liters?

Any issues with heat from exhaust? does yours have the cutout on the left side?

Nice plow work on that gravel road! I did the same thing last week in Mexico and my vario exploded.

The weight and capacity is best answered by sending an email to Vern, the manufacturer. But because they
are closer tothe bike than anything I have seen, and longer, they are very large indeed.

I have a small cut-out on the left one.

Vern suplied a small heat shield, and I installed it. Now it doesn't even get warm when running.

Vern is just about done with new ones for the 1200's have been emailing them about these. Chris says they should have the muffler done this week and Panniers aren't far behind. They will have a full sized left bag because they had a different muffler made. No idea of prices yet.
