    Sir,
    No-one asked so I haven't documented it.
But tomorrow I'll take photos for you to see.

if Vern were closer i'd have a pair. if anyone with these is near michigan, please let me know. i dig this guy and the way he attacked explorer panniers with aplomb.

one day when i'm in europe i'm coming by TaSK's house for tea and a look.

    and a biscuit.

and a bottle of wine. :freaky

Again, a superb job done by Vern! And without a doubt those are the panniers with the best customer support currently around - Vern has helped me to sort out every small detail on the set. "Hand made in the shed" as he says :bow

So I found a girl who finally knows how to buy a Christmas present--I have a pair of Vern's on order! I got the 10"x85 version for my 1150, and I cannot wait to get them! They are black and silver like some of the others pictured. I think that perhaps this is an (expensive) way of ensuring she has enough room for a hair dryer on our long trips. :lol3

Vern has sent her photos from the process and build and kept her in the loop. I looked at the welds and was more than impressed--I have no trouble recommending him before even installing the product!!! :deal

I'll post photos after installed! Just wanted to continue the love for Vern. What a character and what a product!!!

Finally!! Not really - went through all the mental gyrations on size, mounts, ect...and decided on these. No exhaust cut out - my low staintune had to be shimmed in about an inch - 11" wide - tall tops - anodized at the same place as the Bugatti Veyron calipers (:lol3). Vern is a gem to work with and does really fine work. Less weight than oem bags. I think I'm gonna be well stocked and happy :clap

Thanks Jim - they only lock with a padlock. The laches seem pretty robust with a sleeve that goes up behind the top portion as you are latching down.

Cool. I just couldn't see where you would lock them. Great looking bags!

    yeah, that's me.

Jed, when you get yours do us a favour and put the boxes and the mounts on the bathroom scale and tell us what they weigh?

BobbySands - it was all I could do to take a bunch of crappy pics, and we don't not use a scale around these parts - but I will make that happen because the world needs to know. Vern does not even know :lol3

Is there new contact info for Vern? I tried a few months ago and never received a reply. I have never been happy with my Jesse's and I want to try some Vern's. What was the cost on those bags anyway?

I had the same experience. The panniers seem decent but the service for people in the the US sucks big time.

Alright - I took them off, ran to the post office, and then reinstalled them with loctite. Here are the definitive weights:

Mounting brackets, bobbins, bolts, powdercoated stainless:
    11 pounds 10 oz.

Right bag (11" wide 4" top):
    10 pounds 2.4 oz.

Left bag (11" wide 4" top - same as right no exhaust cut out):
    10 pounds 2.8 oz.

For reference - OEM plastic full size w/o mounting bracket:
    10 pounds 11 oz.

For the 11 pound bracket I will take the added rigidity they provide.

Vern's email is sketchy - I sent him an invite to gmail :lol3

At 850 GBP they are well priced comparatively speaking - it is the value of the dollar relative and the shipping that will get us over here. Any buyers remorse is long gone! I will say they shipped on Friday the 1st and arrived the morning of the 4th though :eek1

Man, those things are huge. Look very well built though. I actually like my stock GSA ones.

I emailed Vern and got a reply and here it is. This is for my GSA.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.. a bit busy this end!

I've just started making the kit for the 1200, and there are one or two things that need ironing out before I send them abroad, mainly the frames on the 1200 seem to vary quite a bit for some reason. Al the ones I have fitted over here are sound once they are on, and I'm almost there with the kit now.

A kit will cost £875 with another £125-£150 shipping to the US. If you don't want a cut out in the pannier for the exhaust, I can supply an end can that is made by Kehin for £220.

If you aim for May-June time, that would be my best estimate for delivery.

    Anything else, just ask.

    Ride safe

    Vern
