Hanoi traffic when all the parents are picking up their kids from school:
^^^ That is shocking!
Food delivery- note the packing tape tie downs:
This is a Kia Morning. The owners of these cars are menaces to society. Way worse than prius drivers. When you come around a blind corner on the motorway and there is a car randomly stopped in the middle of the road, chances are it is a Kia Morning.
Winners are top shelf bikes in Vietnam same as Yamaha Exciter 150, not cheap for Viet standards. You won't see many of those bike in cities, let alone villages.
XR150 is probably the best bet for Vietnam.
Awesome RR. Always love the news and RRs from that part of the world.
Ah that is because Toyota used that chassis for vehicles all over the world. We had the Innova in India too - slightly different avatar. Even the Fortuner is based on that chassis. I read that it was retired in NA long ago but going strong in many other places.
Moto photos from Hanoi:
The food waste guy - you could smell this thing a mile, errrr, kilometer away:
Seems safe to me:
By the way, tomorrow is public holiday so please be cautious when travelling on major roads.
Yup we were warned previously, and it is very clear when city slickers are out driving on the 'open roads'. More on that later....
We specifically scheduled ourselves to be in Hanoi this weekend so we wouldn't be out on the road. Tomorrow morning we're packing up and flying back to the states.
We 'sold' the bike back to Tigit this afternoon.
Not sad because the bike is gone, but because now we're stuck in a cab watching bikes go past us on both sides:
Also we gave Tigit the seat pillow to give to the next renter....
Very intrigued by the silver/gray bike in your Hanoi motorcycle photos. What bike is that? Looks well built!
Anyway, thanks for sharing! Have put a Vietnam/Laos ride on my bucket list.
Hehe, and then imagine some parents pick up 2 different kids at 2 different schools in this mad traffic. There are also rich parents who pick up their kids in their cars as well, those have to come 30 mins earlier because there's no parking
What if you pick up your child in the US with your Africa Twin? Do you get frowned upon? Do people call Social services? How do people react? I remember when I rode in Melbourne, there was a rule that it was illegal to carry kids as pillion unless they can put both of their feet on passenger's footrest, I might be wrong.
You've re-kindled my Vietnam plans I've rode a bit around Saigon and the Mekong delta, but there is sooo much more to cover, North is beautiful.
Would be great to ride the Ho Chi Minh road to Hanoi, then do the North and push further to Laos and Cambodia, ending the grand loop in Saigon...
Safe travels mate!
At first I thought it was based on a S65, but the frame and swingarm are different. I'm guessing that it is a Detech 'Honda' Win 100 underneath. Look at the goofy frame.
Car owners will just park directly in the road and block all traffic. It's insane.
Not sure about the kids on bikes thing - I'm not responsible enough to spawn.
I had cat once, but it ran away.
HCM road thru the central highlands is amazing.
Make sure to research which bikes are allowed to be taken into different countries - there is something goofy about bikes with Vietnamese registration, vs bikes that arrive from out of country.
loved the minimalism. thanks for posting.
