I just wanted to chime in here since a lot of people looking to come to Vietnam will be checking this thread. I'm an American expat living/working in Vietnam since July of 2013. I live in Mông Dương, Cam Pha, Cam Pha District, Quang Ninh province, Vietnam. Just copy and paste that in google maps and you'll see where I'm at. I have a 2002 XR250 Baja (Japanese Domestic Model MD30). My wife has a TTR 250 Raid Motard and a Yamaha Nouvo 2 scooter. Looking for some dirt wheels so we can do more off-road. We have a 3 bedroom company-provided apartment with two extra beds if any fellow bikers ever need to stop off and actually sleep in a comfortable bed. I basically have accumulated a full workshop of tools from rebuilding my XR from the ground up. Things are pretty busy at work right now since we're commissioning a 1160 MW coal-fired power plant. I should have more time next year to do some trips. I want to do a 6 day Northern Vietnam loop with my US friends in the fall of 2015 and eventually do the full-length of Vietnam before I leave.
Don't know why I can't EDIT or QUOTE my PREVIOUS post HERE. So that why I have to copy and make NEW post as below to add more link: --------------- Now, below is all of MY property on ADV: III.1. chao ong Viet Horse,,,, at long last i am back in Denver.... Just returned from doing the Mille Miglia in Italy....was helping my friend from Germany get his car ready as well as provide race -support during the event.... I want to let you know how much i appreciate what you do for the international motorcycle community. I know we'll be teaming up to do something down the road....things should settle down over here pretty soon. It's amazing what happens when you are on the road alot....:eek1:huh Is it true you are looking for an HP-2 ???,,,let me know,,,i may have one. Regarding BMW dealership,,,i'll look into that for you too,,,i'm seriously thinking of getting Woody's Wheel Work sub-station over in your neck of the woods....to service all the BMW wheels and be a node point for a ADV rider kick off point...ie have small fleet of 125 enduros and bigger ones too if we can get the driver license recognition issues handled. I think we need to talk to the government and show them that recognizing the international driving license and/or the state license from USA would encourage tourism and be good for Vietnam's economy. I also think that a quick information sheet/riding tips/traffic signals and signs perhaps even a mini quiz would be of great help. WHY??? because your country has some of the craziest driving /pedestrian activity i've seen and experienced. Stuff like how do you get across 4-7 street intersection,,,by motorcycle and /or foot,,,who has the 'right of way' [ a novel concept' in HCMC/Saigon ] IMHO,,,we need ''pull'' from some higher uppers in your government that happen to be motorcycle riders. I am also looking for some higher uppers in your government to help me /the handicapped community in Vietnam and the Nga Nguyen Center for the Handicapped....[ http://news.nguyennga.org/ ].,,,,,i spent several weeks there getting the lay of the land to see how we can help Ms Nguyen Nga and her organization. My vision is that we the ADV Rider community may find those amongst us that will combine adventure riding and do some volunteer/community service work like fellow inmate Steve and his mates from down under did on their journey from Saigon to Hanoi.... More on that later.....anyone interested can always PM me. FYI 4 Aussies gave a great ride report circa 2 years ago,,had wonderful pics,,and videos....just went to get the link for you all ...someone deleted most of their pics:huh here's link: http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=810741&page=8 once again cam on ong Viet Horse. mot ,hai ,ba YO!!!! Ru de bao da Manh
Just finished a quick video of a great trip through the Northwest Vietnam route, Found some new off road tracks. Good riders on some tough tracks. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uL7ryppKe1w http://cuongs-motorbike-adventure.com/western-vietnam/
Simon, I dont think there is second one others than my Spot. I bought it last year for a planned long trip, but that trip not yet happened. I have it available without subsription.
thanks for info. I'm arriving into hanoi and renting a bike from cuong and riding solo for a month so though a good idea to have spot in case i need it in an emergency, like when i run out of beer :) you are in HCMC correct?
Yes Simon. I am in HCMC. Where are you now? Still riding top to toe Vietnam? ------------------- Got this plan for October. Any one interested?
I'm still in Nz New Zealand. I'm flying into hanoi mid sept to pick up a bike form Cuong then riding where I feel like it. I'm free!!! I bought a spot online from states today, so hopefully it'll work in Vietnam. Cheers for help, those food photos make me hungry.
