We used Off Road Vietnam and were very happy with them.

    Hi Dave,
MJS make a confusion : You don't you ask about Tour operator -Off Road Vietnam are kind, I was riding with a group for free during an half day and guide was very helpful- but to rent a bike.

Take care : a lot of backpackers, without motorcycle experience, trust chinese 110CC "Honda" because "you can repair it everywhere" ! Well, I prefer a real Honda or a real Yamaha 125CC and no problems ! Visit several agencies in old Hanoï, for example, or around West Lake and compare.
When I was in Vietnam -for 3 months- I bought a 125YBR to Flamingo Travel in Saïgon (from Paris) with promise to sell back in Hanoï 3 months after. Motorbike in well condition but 87000 km and 7 years old ! did I make a mistake ? Too late... Hopefully, the bike did the job. Current electric issues fixed in Laos. Otherwise, Saïgon promised 750$ back (on 1300), and Hanoï cried to pay 550$... I negociated 650$.
Some guides, named Easyriders (specie of moto-taxi tours) offer less than 700$ to me and said 1300$ was a robbery.

It depends how many days you wish to spend in Vietnam ; it's a huge country with nice people everywhere. 200 km a day seems a max, in my own opinion.

I don know about today's rental options but Off Road Vietnam did yours or rentals when we were there. And they still list a rental fleet on their website. Including 125 and 250cc real motorcycles.

I'm in late, but I bought a bike (1999 Honda XR250) from Offroad Vietnam in 2015. They also rent good bikes (Honda XR125 and Honda XR150). That's really all the displacement that you need in Vietnam, even up north in the mountains. Anyway, the Offroad Vietnam guys are straight shooters.

The only thing I know about Vietnam and riding motorcycles is what I saw the chaps on TOPGEAR do. Sure was a wonderful piece.
As a kid (in the 1960's) I only knew Vietnam as a war...

Update: Booked two bikes with Tigit and everything went very well. Would recommend them. If we go back, we will use their services again.

Used Flamingo Motorbike in Hanoi with a few other ADV people for a 14-day N-S tour in '17. Company was easy to work with. The bikes were older XR250's and a few had issues along the way. One guide was excellent, the other... not so much. 3/5 stars I suppose.

I have hired a big bike off these guys a couple of times. Riding a big bike in VN is great, not as daunting as you may think. They are the first ones, I think, to have big bikes and just put together this.
I am wanting to do one of these rides so if anyone else is interested please connect up and we can try it out. Need a minimum of 6 riders, I have two other mates who are interested so if anyone else is keen please let us know.
