A buddy with his ex-bay some time after the rear suspension mounts rusted out.
Dealer's shop truck.
I have a recent urge to buy a super beetle, upgrade to disc brakes, maybe better rims and tires, and either blueprint crate engine or upgrade carb/intake, exhaust, header for a decent upgrade
Wifey thinks they look silly
I used to hate bugs but now have a hankering for one
Our '69 Type I just after installing the dropped front axle with disc brakes. Love the attitude now.
I still need to install the new running boards, new bumpers... can't rush these things.
I suspect you've already done it, but if you haven't, you need to search the term "German Look".
Nothing silly about T4 powered Superbeetle on a set of Turbo Twists ;-)
Miata has more power and better handling but isn’t able to take 4 people and isn’t as cool
"Flip out" rear windows are nice on a hot day.
Yep. Wing Windows and flip outs, the poor man's AC.
I bought the car in 1994 from the original owner who purchased it in November of 1968, we have the original sales slip which listed the four (4) options that the car came quipped with.
Pop and lock rear windows
"Leatherette" interior (I kid you not)
And a rear window defroster... In the glass.
Any guesses as to the purchase price new...?
New show quality bumpers... a while back, the front it now on. Can't rush these things. lol
I'm going with $1850. We paid $1750 for our (similarly equipped) 1967.
BTW, one of my older brother's friends had a 68 that same color, a rich kid from California that was here on a tennis scholarship at BYU.
Both a little low... I'll wait for one more so as not to drag this out too long.
The color is Cobalt Blue. I am a poor kid from Maine... the original owner was from New Jersey.
$2,019 would be the obvious next guess but I'll leave that for someone else.
Not wanting to have you all figure out how obtuse I am however, I do not know how you came to that number. You are very close though...
I was mistaken about the options, been a long time since I looked at the "New Car Purchase Order" the options did not include the rear window defroster rather the Vent Shades which were $7.95.
So the slip had two different prices on it, the total with options @ $1959.65 and the total with financing @ $2003.09. The purchase was made in Richmond, Virginia.
I chose this year as the number for the price guess.
Good guess on the price.
Bought new at Ward Volkswagen, Richmond, Va.
Both dealerships long gone, Ward folded and Hawthorne rolled into a megabrand.
Here's our Westy at a regional landmark, a Vanagon collection in Pulaski VA. This photo is from several years ago and the number of vans has vastly increased since then.
Sadly, the dealership where my family bought both of our VW’s is also long gone. But it lives on in the license plate frame I restored for my Beck.
