    Has anyone ever experienced for the lack of a better term "chugging" while going down the road at highway speeds, no load, a new chain and sprockets set to the right slack, but a old set of tires? Never noticed it at lower speeds or in any other gear, flat road with no head wind. Feels like a REALLY loose chain but I know that it's not. 05 1k with 59k miles

    Previous owner has had this done already or I would be thinking the same. I've had the bike for 2.5 years and have logged over 20k, it's been going on since I got it just asking now due to all the new parts, also new flywheel, stator and battery.

    I get this after extended highway runs at speeds over 70 when I use partial throttle. For all my tinkering I've never found out what causes it and the forums haven't helped either. My next try is to replace the TPS sensors. Cause it feels to me like someone is slamming the throttles open and shut. Like fueling almost.

    You mean like it's surging? What RPM is the motor turning at that point? Have you ever adjusted the FI for the lean off idle/partial throttle condition?

    Yes surging would be a more correct term. Stock gearing so 60-65 mph an that puts me between the 3-3500 rpm mark. Never adjusted anything FI wise but have had the valves an TB sync done about a year ago with no change. I'm aware of the mechanical noise or un-smothness of the engine at lower rpm under a load. I just sold my triumph so I know what a noisy engine sounds like. If someone lived close enough id gladly let them experience it. Daily driving I shift all gears between 3500 an 4k, seems to be happy there and I do allot of highway driving because it's my DD an i ride all year.

    Run it at 4k. At the rpms you are using, you're down where the fueling is lean, and you are definitely getting surging. I had this before adding a Power Commander.
    These bikes are terribly lean from the factory in those rpm ranges.

    Also, get a throttle body sync, BOTH primary and secondary. When my secondary throttle plates were out a bit, the bike would noticeably surge at 3500-3800 rpm, constant speed, light load and throttle opening.

    Even after a TB sync, plugs, ect, ect mine will surge pretty hard at light throttle opening no matter the RPMs turning, weather doesn't seem to be a contributing factor. This is only after a long High speed (over 70 mph) highway run and once I ride around at lower speeds for a little while (probably 20 or 30 mins) it goes away. I'm still not sure what could be causing it and I haven't had any luck finding anyone with the same problems I've been having, nor have I founda anything searching historical posts all over the place.

    My cush drive rubbers are fine and tight. This feels almost like the bike is slamming the secondaries shut rapidly even though I've got a steady throttle opening.

    Downs, your problem may a bit different, but I bet it's also related to the lean tuning of the FI at small throttle openings. People used to mess with the TB sync them again (and again and again...), changing plugs, adjusting TPS (again and again and again...) etc. etc. to no avail. You can't fix what is essentially an FI tuning problem with other components.

    There used to be a Yosh Box loaner program on the V-Strom forum (what is now VSRI, I guess). You use it to change the fueling at low throttle openings. It has 3 ranges, you only need to adjust the lower one. I added about 5% more fuel in that range, and that solved the problem completely (IIRC, don't sue me over a percent +/-, it's been 16 years since I did this to my DL1K :gerg). Obviously, you can do this with a Power Commander too, but the loaner Yosh Box was more convenient and free at the time... :deal

    I have a '05 1000 with just under 30 thousand miles and had the same issue below 4000 RPM. Bike ran perfectly fine at 4000 and above. I did a little research and found that the '05 model was very lean under 4000.....more so than the previous and later models. Don't know if there was some change by the EPA that year or what. Anyway, I sprung for a Power Commander V for $300 and it has been the best money I have spent on the old girl thus far. Preprogrammed for my bike, with options for aftermarket exhaust and intake if you have them, very simple to install, and the results transform the bike at the lower RPM's.

    Now for that Werks clutch basket this winter........

    I would advise against the HT center stand. Mine failed while putting it up, at the depressor leg. Stand was installed on a bike I bought second-hand so apparently I'm SOL. NEVER seen a center stand fail. Not a happy camper over here.:muutt

    Vincent, what year is your bike, that the HT centerstand failed on ??? They just installed one on my '17 V-Strom 650XT, and it works "okay". Not as smooth to lift the bike up and onto the centerstand as I am used to with OEM centerstands, but...it is well made.

    Have you considered having it re-welded...with a small brace put in there, so it won't break again?

    It's a 2012. Stand is from 2014. Maybe they've changed the design since then? My tire guy asked me if the center stand was OEM or aftermarket, as it "looked pretty odd". I may as well weld something up, but based on HT's response I'm ready to just chuck it and never deal with any of their products again.

    From what I understand the issue with stand is the water collecting inside while not engaged; failure is due to rusting. Mine (not HT different brand) has the same issue, so I kick it down often to drain, YMMV.

    Dearly noted... I dun did the TB sync just over a year ago so I'd think I'm good there. As far as the power commander, are you aware of any used whons? New units are just a bit out of the wife agreed price range.

    Can the throttle body sync be done at home, or is that a shop only thing?
