    I wouldn't do a TBS on a post 2007 650. 2004-2006 Wees and 2002-2012 Wees can benefit but later 650s have a different configuration due to emissions controls and a TBS is only an idle air screw adjustment. Even that is best done using a proprietary computer tool.

    In general, and specifically for a VStrom 650, how viable is it to store a bike un-riden for an extended period of time (3 years) and then add fluids back and ride? Are there components that would dry out, rot, tire deformation, etc? I'm a novice rider and novice mechanic (though I'm good at building/fixing things).

    My specific context is I hope to pick up a well farkeled late model VStrom, ride for 6 months and then moth ball and store in a barn in New England until the next time I have to ride (3 years later).

    I'm trying to avoid having to take time to buy on the front end and sell on the back end the next time I get to ride. Would this plan just mean I'll end up spending a lot of time on maintenance at the start of my next ride window or not? If so, what would I have to replace and how hard would that be? Genetic tools and work space wouldn't be an issue but I don't have specialized motorcycle tools (e.g. Motorcycle lift)

    I'm guessing the "wise" solution would be to sell and rebuy at my next riding opportunity but wanted to ask people with more experience.

    Where it will be stored at? Would it be reasonably protected from elements (rain, snow, heat, etc). If it is guarage storage see no prob. Put a fresh tank of non-ethanol premium, add stabil, ride home, change oil/filter, pull battery and put it on tender. If you ridden in stow make sure to get salt off the bike prior good luck.

    It would be in doors in a barn, out of the elements but not temperature controlled. It wouldn't get hot but it would get cold, easily 20°-15° F, occasionally 10°F, potentially 5°-0° F.

    Cold usually not a prob, heat and moisture (condensate) is.

    Get a good tender or just count needing a new battery.

    Non-ethanol and stabilizer are only good for a year. Run a tank of it through the engine, then drain the tank completely. Remove the fuel pump and let the gas evaporate. Pull one plug from each cylinder and spray in engine fogger. Fog the tank too. Spray all metal and electrical components except brakes with acf50. Remove the battery. Keep the tires off the ground. Plug the muffler. Cover the moto. Figure out a way to keep mice from chewing on the wiring.

    The rule of thumb is one year for stabilized fuel. For much longer, I'd drain the tank and fuel lines and oil fog the tank and cylinders. Also drain the old oil and fill with new oil to the bottom of the fill hole.

    Well the problem with having dry tank is moisture condensation, you want tank 90% full to avoid rusting.

    Fuel will last. I had bike with 10% ethanol stored for 5 years and the EFI bike started right away. Ran like crap at least until 2 gas stops flushed fuel out. That was in garage, so never got below freezing or above 100F

    @OP when you ready to restart bike, be ready to run a couple tanks to get old fuel out, and add Lucas or Seafoam to clean injectors good luck.

    Just sell the bike and if you still want to ride 3 years down the road buy another one. You will always be able to find a used strom for sale.

    Well, even it is was only for 2 years, it still depends on storage conditions, like a barn. Here's the last part of their FAQ answer…"However, any gasoline stored for more than 12 months will tend to lose volatility (ignitability), which could lead to hard starting or NO START conditions after this long storage period. NO additive, STA-BIL brand included, will prevent volatility loss in fuel.”

    I use the rokform motorcycle mount and I love it, kinda on the steep side but solid and well worth it.

    Rick is a stand-up guy and V-Strom owner, you can also find him over on Strom-troopers. I've had one of these for a while now, very sturdy and works great.

    Rapid temperature changes creates most of the condensation. I've had good luck with an old sleeping bag. Breathable, but slows the temperature change, eliminating a lot of the condensation.
    But for years in storage I'd oil the inside as suggested, & find a home for it inside.
