Hi all,
A small group of friends and I are in the planing stages for a ride from Or to Co (W to E) on the TAT then ride the Cont Divide north back home to Idaho.

I have ridden the Divide and have tracks for it but need GPS tracks for the TAT between Colorado to Oregon.

Does anyone have them to share?

Don't be surprised if this starts a battle. Sharing these tracks is generally not well received.

Best to buy the maps from Sam and program the route yourself.

I'll have to support Gaspipe on that......no sharing of TAT tracks.

The problem as I see it is, I do not want to use a roll chart and want to ride west to east. If Sam offered the service route that I am looking for, I would be happy to send my busness his way. He does not!

So I am at the mercy of the Adv riders. Sorry, but I still would like the secition from Oregon to Colorado.

We all share information on this site with reguards to our sport and I see this as no different.

Huh? It doesn't matter if the roll charts run east to west or west to east.....Buy'em, look at the directions on a map, and set it up in Mapsource from West to East.....very simple.....

I view Sam's work as "Intellectual Property" even though it does not have a copy right just like my Mexico2Canada route. I do not sell roll charts or tracks and riders must promise not to keep tracks and return the roll chart each night.

If these tracks get on the internet, we are out of business!

If you don't want to buy Sams work then you should go out and spend about a month and scout the ride, then come back next year and ride it not steel Sams work!

I spent two weeks (at least $2,000) this summer developing a true Continental Divide Ride across New Mexico. Next year it will take me 1-2 weeks to do Colorado. It will not appear on AdvRider if I can help it!

Some advice about plotting the TAT on GPS, using available maps, etc.

Good luck !! We tried that before we rode it, a lot of Sam's routes are not on maps, therefore you're guessing while laying it out on GPS. He gave us some great, special secret routes that only locals would know.

Thus, the rollchart was a tool you cannot do without.

If you want to ride the ride backwards, buy his rollcharts, spend the time to add up the mileages in reverse.

Now that it is in LDT - we aren't going to have a whole nother thread of "Sam's intellectual property." There are enough already.

So here's the deal - if someone wants to PM the guy and you do whatever it is that you do, that's you and your conscience.

I would personally recommend that you buy Sam's stuff and plot it yourself. It's pretty easy to do in Mapsource.

But since LDT has a prohibition on posting copyrighted materials, and since the base information for the TAT is copyrighted, no posting of TAT tracks since we can't tell if the OP has a legal copy of the base materials.

So what yer all saying is that I can go ride anything I want, sell it (or try to) and claim it as intellectual property?

Shit, I'm gonna be a rich MF soon, and none of ya'll are gonna be able to post anything!

It's only worth something if someone is willing to pay for it. I think we already have enough worthless intellectual property to last quite awhile.

I just bought the Nevada section. It took me about an hour to hand draw a track for the state. My advice don't wast your time with routes, and use a GPS that accepts tracks.

Working on some multi-day Nevada rides. First one is Fallon to Austin to Belmont and back to Fallon.

Using the TAT, could also do Fallon to Denio to Battle Mt to Ely to Caliente to Pahrump to Beatty to Tonopah and back to Fallon.

Hey all. I have been lurking in ADV for a while, and looking to ride the TAT in about 1.5 years. Living in (the REAL) Northern California, I will be running the TAT West to East. Starting the advance planning now (KTM530).
Since there are so many of you out there that have already mapped out the TAT with GPS, IF I bought the route from Sam, would any of you be willing to PM the tracks? This would save a LOT of extra work. I think it would also be helpful since there are so many "alternate" routes that everyone has mapped along the TAT. It really looks like Oregon has some issues with blocked roads/trails, so some more detail on alternates there would be helpful. I might even plan an extra 2-3 days on the trip to explore this area more thouroughly...

The knowledge that you gain by transfering the route yourself is worth its weight in gold! It is not hard to do and can be done in a few evenings with your favorite cold beverage.

Like I said in reply above, I bought Nevada and made the track in less than an hour. And like Jeff says you need to review the track turn by turn so you know what is coming up. If you want a self-guided turn-key tour with no pre-ride work ride to Mex2Can.

Of course it would be helpful, just don't look to any of the inmates here for help. Oregon maps from Sam are pretty useless, he has no intention of rectifying the issue but is quite happy to take your money. And remember only slackers use GPS, real men use roll charts.
